Job Description

The Laundry Clerk II performs complex (journey-level) clerical work in areas such as inventory control, statistics, employment, human resources, purchasing, and accounting. Work involves compiling and tabulating data, checking documents for accuracy, transporting documents and/or stock and inventory, maintaining files, disseminating information, maintaining filing systems, updating and maintaining data, generating reports and charts, checking laundry quotas, submitting work orders, entering and retrieving data, routine typing, answering phone calls, and greeting visitors. They serve as back-up staff to work with other laundry staff as needed. They may process high priority communications and work with time sensitive special projects. The Laundry Clerk II has no financial responsibility but is accountable for assigned property. The Laundry Clerk II works under the general supervision of the Regional Laundry Manager with moderate latitude for the use of initiative and independent judgment.
Essential Job Functions
  • When sick you need to call in and speak with the Regional Laundry Manager with-in the first hour of your shift.
  • Answers and routes incoming phone calls and visitors.
  • Organize, label, date, and alphabetize all files and index’s.
  • This includes but is not limited to all tasks assigned to the Laundry Worker I, II, and III’s.
  • Purchases Report collecting, inputting, and filing.
  • Reports and projects as assigned by Regional Laundry Manager (rehab, discards, water usage, vehicle, purchases, quotas, small washer, washcloth and rag, employee info, schedules, central office report, flow chart, key list, inventory).
  • Will train Regional Laundry Staff on the use of Access HR and the basics of the computer.
  • Other duties as assigned include but are not limited to actively participating and/or serving in a supporting role to meet the agency’s obligations for disaster response and/or recovery or Continuity of Operations (COOP) activation. Such participation may require an alternate shift pattern assignment and/or location.
  • Serves as the Regional Laundry Safety Officer.
  • If you are going to be late you need to call as soon as possible to let the Regional Laundry Manager know so the workload for the day can be adjusted.
  • Delivers messages in a timely manner.
  • Attends meetings as assigned.
  • Maintains the Regional Laundry Office.
  • Prepares and checks documents for accuracy.
  • Will assist with Laundry New Employee Orientation Training for all Laundry Staff.
  • Maintains stock and inventory control by submitting orders through Regional Laundry Manager for Credit Card orders, P.O.’s, MIMS & Apecs, office supplies.
  • Will take notes when attending the meeting and retrieve all handouts.
  • Assists Regional Laundry employees with CAPPS, ILearn, Laundry New Employee Orientation Training, and scheduling required training.
  • Generate reports and charts.
  • Regional Laundry Manager as necessary may assign employee other duties.
  • Will fill out a violation report when a safety violation has occurred and submit to Manager's.
  • Will work with the other assigned Laundry Safety Officer for Regional Laundry Department.
  • Serves as back up to work with other laundry staff.
  • Answers the phone & makes decisions to take message or put on hold.
  • Will attend meetings as assigned by the Regional Laundry Manager.
  • Will update new employee orientation training binder with Regional Laundry Director and Laundry Manager monthly.
  • All vacation time will be scheduled with 10 days advance notice.
  • Updates and maintains main binder of all forms and insures staff has adequate supply not running out.
  • Attends work on a regular basis and may be required to work a specific shift schedule or, at times, even a rotating schedule, extended shift and/or overtime in accordance with agency leave policy and performs other duties as assigned.
  • Works with time sensitive special projects.
  • Will update the Regional Laundry Manager using notes and handouts presented at meeting.
  • Will train Regional Laundry Staff on how to locate ILearn and take required training.
  • Will give tours of the Regional Laundry.
  • Collecting, calculating, inputting, filing, and retrieving data.
  • Tunnel Reports collecting, inputting, and filing.
  • Assists in checking laundry distribution and quotas.
  • All sick time for Dr. Appt. will be scheduled with 24hr-advance notice.
  • Will keep phone logs on all calls coming into the Regional Laundry.
  • Poundage Reports (dirty and clean) collecting, calculating, input, & filing.
  • Maintain the Clerk III job duties manual updating it with the Regional Laundry Manager monthly.
  • Updates and maintains data to include data entry and retrieval.
  • Attends work on a regular and predictable schedule in accordance with agency leave policy and performs other duties as assigned.
  • Submits maintenance work orders.
  • Will fill out the Regional Laundry Department safety checklist monthly and turn into Regional Laundry Manager.
  • Will schedule Regional Laundry Staff for required training.
  • When using only a partial day of vacation time you need to let Regional Laundry Manager know upon arrival that morning what your plans are and the Regional Laundry Manager will let you know if this would be possible after assessing the work load for that day.

Registration Or Licensure Requirements
Must possess or be willing to obtain a food safety certification (ServSafe, Learn to Serve, or Food Protection Manager) within the first six months of employment
If this position is required to drive, must possess a valid Texas driver license or obtain it no later than 90 days after hire date to drive a state vehicle. Applicants with an out-of-state driver license must provide an original certified driving record from the state of driving licensure. Eligible driving record required based on HHSC Fleet Management policy.
Initial Selection Criteria
  • Graduation from a standard senior high school or GED.
  • Experience in clerical work.

SALARY NOTE: The posted salary range reflects the minimum and maximum allowable by state law. Any employment offer is contingent upon available budgeted funds. The offered salary will be determined in accordance with budgetary limits and the requirements of HHSC Human Resources Manual Chapter 7.

Males between the ages of 18-25 must be registered with the Selective Service.

Flexibility in work hours may be required for this position. The position may be required to work overtime and/or extended hours.
