Job Description
Position Description

Duties and Responsibilities:
  • The Clerk enters court data in Harris County's Justice Courts Information System in Odyssey and JWEB.
  • Answers multi-line switchboard and performs extensive data entry and files in numeric and alpha order.
  • The Clerk also works with the public and processing payments for traffic, criminal, and civil cases.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Requirements

All applicants must register and take the HRRM Clerical Skills Test and score a minimum of 90% with a typing speed of 35 W.P.M. and 90% accuracy.

Education and Experience:
  • Minimum two (2) years of clerical work experience as a Justice Clerk.
  • High school diploma or G.E.D. equivalent from an accredited education institution.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
  • A valid U.S. driver's license and social security card.
  • Capable of multi-tasking, handling high pressure, fast-paced and stressful situations in a calm and professional manner.
  • Proper English grammar, punctuation, spelling, and business writing.
  • Ability to work well with the public and other staff members.
  • Ability to interact and communicate with individuals of diverse background.
  • Excellent organizational skills, detail oriented, punctual, and dependable.
  • Basic computer knowledge in a Microsoft Windows based environment.
  • Possesses strong oral and written communications skills.
  • Uses standard office equipment such as computer, copiers, and fax machine.
  • Heavy filing and some experience working with computers and handling a multi-line phone system.

  • Associate or Bachelor’s Degree in Social Sciences or closely related field.

Position Type and Typical Hours of Work:

Salary:
  • Depends on qualifications and experience.
  • Based on 26 Pay Periods.
Physical Demands:
  • Standing and sitting for prolonged periods of time.
  • Ability to lift and carry up to twenty-five pounds (25), unassisted.

Employment is contingent upon passing a background check and drug screen.
