BUSINESS OPERATIONS MANAGER

The Business Operations Manager's sole mandate is to enable human life on Mars and increase the free flow of information globally through profit improvement at SpaceX. The role combines traditional business planning and analysis with broader business decision-making and strategy, directly supporting SpaceX's leadership. Business Operations is embedded in daily operations, supporting both near-term execution and long-term planning. Team members are expected to analyze data and provide recommendations and to lead cross-functional decision-making and implementation of the recommendations. SpaceX Business Operations is lean and dynamic, supporting several subgroups: supply chain, engineering, manufacturing, sales, and growth. We encourage scope increase and variation across subgroups for high performers.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Analyze key performance indicators, especially cost per unit, revenue, cost of sales, operating expenses and capital expenditures (includes developing business models and decision-making tools)
  • Manage R&D investments/planning for Engineering (e.g. return on investment analyses for new technology development, resource planning, etc.)
  • Track, report, and proactively manage profit improvement (e.g. design proposals, supply chain initiatives) on existing products
  • Identify initiatives for improvement of SpaceX's business outlook, including developing, tracking, and executing business initiatives with SpaceX's leadership
  • Support product development by establishing cost targets and guiding engineering, design, and supply chain decisions towards attainment of these targets (i.e. cost vs. performance tradeoffs)
  • Lead manufacturing cost improvement for all products, including feedback on estimated manufacturing costs for future programs, identification of focus areas for cost, and execution of identified initiatives
  • Work with stakeholders to analyze the impact of proposed business decisions (including actual performance) on SpaceX's business health
  • Guide planning and resource management (e.g., headcount, investment, etc.) for specific verticals within SpaceX, including development of business models

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS:

  • 6+ years of engineering, business operations, consulting, or entrepreneurship experience
  • Experience in an analytical or operations role
  • Bachelor's degree in engineering, business, or economics

PREFERRED SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE:

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, particularly with senior business leaders
  • Evidence of exceptional ability, especially within an ambiguous environment
  • Experience with Python, SQL, Power Query, Power BI, Tableau, or similar data manipulation languages or tools
  • Experience working cross-functionally to support launches and scaling operations
  • Experience leading complex operational and strategic initiatives
  • Demonstrated track record of cross-functional stakeholder management and leadership through influence.
  • Excellent analytical skills (e.g. Microsoft Office applications, Excel modeling, etc.)

ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Flexibility required including long hours and weekend work when necessary to support operations and critical project timelines

COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS:

Pay range:

Business Operations Manager: $125,000.00 - $180,000.00/per year
