Job Description
About Opendoor

Founded in 2014, Opendoor’s mission is to empower everyone with the freedom to move. We believe the traditional real estate process is broken and our goal is simple: build a digital, end-to-end customer experience that makes buying and selling a home simple, certain and fast. We have assembled a dedicated team with diverse backgrounds to support more than 100,000 homes bought and sold with us and the customers who have selected Opendoor as a trusted partner in handling one of their largest financial transactions. But the work is far from over as we continue to grow in new markets. Transforming the real estate industry takes tenacity and dedication. It takes problem solvers and builders. It takes a tight knit community of teammates doing the best work of their lives, pushing one another to transform a complicated process into a simple one. So where do you fit in? Whether you’re passionate about real estate, people, numbers, words, code, or strategy -- we have a place for you. Real estate is broken. Come help us fix it.

About The Team

The Open Exchange team is building the vertically integrated platform for residential real estate transactions, offering a wide range of services across acquisitions, brokerage, title & escrow, and data.

The Strategy & Special Situations Team within Open Exchange is experiencing explosive growth and sits at the nexus of growth, new products, innovation bets, special projects, bulk trading, M&A and strategy. We are looking to hire the first generation of leaders to work on the next wave of these initiatives.

This is a unique role that combines innovation with broad financial modeling (unit economics, real estate asset pricing + modeling, financial operating, bulk trading, strategy and M&A) and operations - scaling and executing ideas and zero-to-one and one-to-ten bets into the next products and businesses inside of Open Exchange and broader Opendoor. Individuals who have worked on previous initiatives like this have grown into business unit leaders and senior operators across the Company. The right profile of person is capable of both defining and executing, both individually and cross-functionally across the organization.

You’ll work closely with Open Exchange senior leadership, and a talented, diverse, and cross-functional team to solve hard problems in the real estate industry and build an enduring business, and this role reports into one of the 2 Co-Presidents of Open Exchange

Role Responsibilities:

  • Evaluate and help execute upon new products and partnerships, adjacent opportunities, and tactical deals (e.g. JV’s, M&A, Fundraising, bulk trades)
  • Partner with leadership, F&S, operations, and analytics to develop internal and external overview materials; capable of performing first pass spreadsheet math, financial analysis, or other ad-hoc analysis independently
  • Superstar Generalist: Ability to improvise, pivot, and assimilate information; like being fast-paced and embrace change + new opportunities
  • Help stand-up new businesses and strategies
  • Seam management, alongside executive leadership
  • Partner with leadership and Opendoor + Open Exchange’s pricing team and asset trading team to own, refine, and further develop bulk portfolio asset trading (acquisition and resale) strategy
  • Help define, ideate, and execute on strategic roadmap and tactical strategic opportunities for Open Exchange
  • Partner with BD, product, design, and marketing to channel customer feedback into strategy and new product development
  • Conduct competitive analysis and market intelligence gathering to help drive new product development and existing product positioning. Bonus of experience partnering with Corporate Development or leadership on strategic M&A
  • Partner with Open Exchange executive team to further refine and develop our high-level strategy, capitalize on strategic and tactical opportunities for growth, and ways to accelerate our Enterprise mission and roadmap

Skills Needed:

  • 3-6 years experience in heavy operations at a startup or high-grow business with experience zero-to-one and one-to-ten’ing products or projects
  • Proven ability to run deals or projects independently, to coordinate cross-functional teams, and scrappiness / grittiness
  • You’re highly self-motivated, have a stellar work ethic, high motor, and you’re looking for the right company to support your growth
  • Strong technical skills; Excel and basic SQL knowledge required
  • Good financial acumen
  • Above all else you are bright, kind, adaptable, fast learner and curious
  • Genuine interest in real estate and proptech
  • Keen attention to detail. Your analysis is always high quality, accurate, and easy to understand; proven track record of being a safe set of hands
  • Ability to multitask effectively and strong organizational skills
  • Experience working with external partners and / or stakeholders
  • Preference for high-growth tech startups, finance, or management consulting

Bonus Points if:
