Job Description
The Associate Director of Admissions, Director of Regional Engagement—Atlanta is part of the VU Regional Hub Team within the Office of Undergraduate Admissions (OUA) at Vanderbilt University. This position is a member of a distributed workforce that is co-located with key partners from other Vanderbilt University offices, Development and Alumni Relations and Career Advancement and Engagement, to facilitate collaboration and deliver value to area constituents.
The Associate Director of Admissions, Director of Regional Engagement will lead various admissions and recruitment activities in the VU Regional Hub including small- and large-scale recruitment events with regional prospective undergraduate applicants, high school counselors, local alumni groups, and other focus markets to increase awareness of VU and the undergraduate admissions process in the Atlanta area. Reporting directly to the Senior Associate Director of Admissions, Senior Director of Regional Networks, the Associate Director of Admissions, Director of Regional Engagement will also engage in a full range of admissions activities, including reading and evaluating applications, developing recruitment plans for meeting enrollment goals, contact with current high school students in the regional market and to promote a diversity of applications, and participating in speaking engagements throughout the region, all while maintaining excellence in accordance with VU policies and performance expectations.
The Associate Director of Admissions, Director of Regional Engagement is expected to reside in the Atlanta area and will be permitted a hybrid work structure. Occasional travel to Nashville and to other VU Regional Hubs is expected.
VU Network is a university-wide initiative focused on expanding Vanderbilt’s presence and engagement with markets outside of Nashville. The goal is to develop a network of regional hubs that promote activity and engagement with Vanderbilt’s growing community of students, alumni, parents, faculty and partnership corporations. This new regional strategy will include in-market offices across the United States as well as international locations. VU Network involves deep collaboration and partnership across several key university administrative offices – including Development and Alumni Relations, Career Advancement and Engagement, Marketing and Communications, and University Enrollment Affairs.
The Office of Undergraduate Admissions at Vanderbilt University is a critical unit within University Enrollment Affairs that contributes greatly to the entire Vanderbilt community. Its mission is to recruit, select, and enroll a diverse cohort of degree-seeking first-year and transfer students who are intellectually curious, academically talented, and socially engaged. The Office consists of a team that includes the Executive Director, an experienced group of admissions officers, and a well-seasoned support staff engaged in marketing Vanderbilt globally. To accomplish this, members of the OUA team travel both domestically and abroad to conduct high school visits, attend college fairs, and do speaking engagements. The Office communicates systematically with hundreds of thousands of prospective students through traditional printed publications, the web, and other social media channels, and serves as the first point of contact for members of the public interested in VU.

Duties and Responsibilities
Lead regional Recruitment & Outreach and Marketing & Communications efforts of the Office of Undergraduate Admissions. May include the following:
  • Lead all OUA regional projects and collaborate with key VU offices, including partners from Development and Alumni Relations and Career Advancement and Engagement.
  • Design and propose a recruitment and outreach strategy that focuses on the VU goals and initiatives specific to the assigned region.
  • Plan, coordinate, organize and host events for target audiences in the Atlanta area – including prospective students and families, high school counselors, and alumni.
  • Assist with department programs designed to impact university recruitment and yield efforts; partner with admissions colleagues to develop innovative regional recruitment and yield event opportunities.
  • Act as a representative of Vanderbilt University for regional admissions and higher education conferences, meetings, and other industry functions.
  • Build direct relationships with regional partners and VU leadership; liaise with VU Vice Provost, Provost, and Chancellor teams to coordinate local recruitment and engagement events.

Lead Evaluation & Selection efforts in the Atlanta area to determine student eligibility for admission to an undergraduate school of the university.

  • Maintain a thorough and comprehensive understanding of academic programs offered at VU including admission parameters and key application requirements.
  • Review academic transcripts and application information with school entrance requirements accurately and in a timely manner.
  • Develop familiarity with university initiatives pertaining to diversity, equity, and inclusion and review applications with the intent of broadening the VU community.

Partner with VU Network regional offices to expand and advance VU initiatives worldwide.

  • Facilitate knowledge-share opportunities between regional offices to advance the effectiveness of the VU Network model.
  • Coordinate with the VU Regional Hubs team and OUA partners to identify key performance indicators (KPIs), define reporting needs, and develop dashboards.
  • In partnership with the VU Regional Hubs team, define the short- and long-term vision, goals, and priorities of the office.
Qualifications
  • Ability to use independent judgment and to manage and impart confidential information is necessary.
  • Ability to travel independently approximately 12 weeks annually with the vast majority in region.
  • Skill in the use of Slate CRM preferred.
  • Effective verbal and writing skills are necessary.
  • A Master’s degree is preferred.
  • Ability to adapt and be flexible in different situations and circumstances is necessary.
  • At least five plus years of professional experience in college or university admissions/student recruitment, enrollment management or in a related field is preferred.
  • The ability to work effectively with a wide range of constituencies in a diverse community is necessary.
  • Strong public speaking skills, with comfort in front of large audiences are necessary.
  • Organizing and coordinating skills are preferred.
  • A valid driver license is necessary.
  • Experience in events development, planning, and execution is necessary.
  • Skill in word processing, spreadsheet and presentation software is necessary.
  • Demonstrated self-starter with experience working in a highly autonomous role is necessary.
  • A Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution of higher education is necessary.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills are necessary.
