Ares Alternative Credit Team (“Team”), based in our NYC office, is seeking a candidate to join the strategy team that invests in Real Estate Debt Securities, including CMBS, across the capital structure including below investment grade securities (“REDS Team”). The Team is highly experienced with a reputation for its sophistication, strong performance and focus on market technical analysis coupled with bottom up fundamental analysis. The Team continues to experience significant AUM growth and manages a range of funds and accounts, including publicly-traded, private and open-ended funds across a range of investment strategies.


The role being offered is an Alternative Credit Associate for the REDS Team. Working collaboratively with other REDS Team members, the analyst will be responsible for supporting multiple aspects of our REDS investment process. Key responsibilities include a heavy quantitative element, in addition to capital markets and basic underwriting skills. The quantitative element includes the development, use and refinement of advanced financial excel based models with heavy VBA, building and fine-tune databases utilizing SQL as well as utilizing Intex and Bloomberg. In addition, the role will involve interaction with other professionals within the Team and across Ares. Thus, the ideal candidate is experienced in the facets of the role and is accustomed to a dynamic team environment with a rigorous analytical approach.


The nature of the Team’s investment process and dynamic environment necessitates that a candidate have strong verbal and written communication skills, a professional demeanor, along with sharp analytical skills relevant to REDS and commercial real estate.


Primary Functions And Essential Responsibilities


  • Support REDS monitoring and surveillance utilizing existing infrastructure while working with broader team to enhance process
  • Assist in putting together Investment Committee Memorandums
  • Operate and enhance excel based financial models with heavy VBA and generate various reports for REDS investments via an existing proprietary REDS model
  • Monitoring capital market activity including Bid Wanted in Competition (BWICs) and posting team on secondary and primary market opportunities utilizing proprietary technology and Bloomberg
  • Support the REDS investment process by assisting portfolio management and real estate credit professionals which includes:
  • Enhance and run excel based reports that contain market data and activity and are integrated with Bloomberg and Intex


Qualifications


  • Bachelor’s degree or international equivalent in Economics, Mathematics, Engineering, Computer Science, Information Systems, Finance or related field.
  • Desire and ability to work in a dynamic, collaborative team environment (open, trading-desk setting)
  • Sharp analytical skills that demonstrate quantitative skills.
  • Desire to learn new skills and technology that are particular to the Team’s investment platform
  • Fluency with real estate, CMBS and broader structured products
  • Experience and strength in working with Bloomberg, Intex, SQL, Excel, VBA, CAS, Word, and PowerPoint
  • The ideal candidate will have experience in at least one of these areas: database modelling, securitization, capital markets expertise and/or Excel with VBA modelling capabilities.
  • Evidence of intellectual curiosity, creative problem-solving skills, and adaptability
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills and an ability to articulate clear, concise analysis

The anticipated base salary range for this position is listed below. Total compensation may also include a discretionary performance-based bonus. Note, the range takes into account a broad spectrum of qualifications, including, but not limited to, years of relevant work experience, education, and other relevant qualifications specific to the role.


$130,000.00 - $175,000.00
