As part of its efforts to expand its investment management business in the Americas and enhance its overall offering, Nomura Holding America Inc. has established a new business line – Nomura Private Capital (NPC). NPC will focus on providing RIAs and their clients with access to private markets.  The first strategy brought to market provides diversified exposure to private credit sectors through a closed-end interval fund structure. Additional products/strategies will be developed in other private markets such as real estate, infrastructure, private equity or venture capital (e.g., potentially including non-traded REIT/BDCs, open/closed-end private funds or similar structures).

 

Position:

Nomura Private Capital (NPC) is seeking an associate level investment professional to join the Opportunistic Private Credit Team.  The Opportunistic Private Credit Team is a newly formed team within NPC that is deploying capital out of its initial fund into a diverse spectrum of private credit transactions.  The associate candidate will support the investment process across the private credit team.  The successful candidate will have a passion for investing and will play an integral role in evaluating, structuring, and executing investments and subsequent monitoring and harvesting of those investments.  The position requires intellectual curiosity as well as strong interpersonal skills. 

 

Primary Responsibilities:

The successful candidate will be a self-starter who thrives in a fast paced, entrepreneurial environment.  This candidate will leverage their prior experience to underwrite and monitor investments to generate superior risk adjusted returns.  Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

·       Screen and diligence new potential investments as they come in across private credit (sponsor backed and non-sponsor backed direct lending, asset backed, and structured credit transactions). 

·       Build dynamic financial models and perform fundamental analysis.

·       Review and synthesize data room materials and other primary source information on potential pipeline investments.

·       Maintain pipeline tracker for weekly meetings. 

 

·       Prepare investment memoranda and related documentation for Investment Committee and monitoring post execution.  

·       Be the first line of defense for continuous credit quality monitoring.     

·       Complete research projects on an ad-hoc basis.  

Qualifications:

·       2-5 years of work experience in investment management/research ideally working with a team executing private credit investments (capital solutions, opportunistic, sponsor and non-sponsor direct lending, asset backed or structured products), and/or investment banking or portfolio management.  Buyside experience not required but preferred.    

·       Intellectual curiosity oriented towards producing his/her own analysis.

·       Strong analytical ability and critical thinking skills.

·       Demonstrable experience and proficiency in Excel and PowerPoint in order to produce Investment Committee memoranda.

·       Detail oriented with unquestionable integrity.

·       A self-starter that is capable of managing multiple priorities and deadlines. 

·       A collegial, collaborative, and team oriented person.

·       Ability to clearly articulate ideas, theses and assumptions in written and oral format and to be able to defend those ideas, theses and assumptions. 

·       Comfortable and excited to operate in an entrepreneurial culture and contribute to the scaling of a business unit within a broader organization. 

·       Excellent academic track record.
