Job Description

SUMMARY

Sullivan & Cromwell LLP (“S&C”) is seeking an Assistant – Paralegal Services & Events (“Assistant”) in the New York office. The Assistant is responsible for providing administrative and office support functions to the Paralegal and Analyst Services department in the Legal Talent Office (“LTO”). Additionally, the Assistant will work closely with the Diversity Management Department (“DMD”) to plan and coordinate events for lawyers and summer associates.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

  • Participate in coordination of mentoring program and related initiatives for new hire Litigation, General Practice and Estates & Personal paralegals.
  • Provide administrative support and coverage to the Paralegal and Analyst Services department with day-to-day operations, including maintenance of office files and assistance with orientation for temporary attorneys and new paralegals.
  • Assist senior members of the department with implementation of training programs for paralegals as well as staffing paralegals to work assignments.
  • Additional responsibilities and special projects may be assigned.
  • Work closely with various team members, other departments, and key stakeholders on multiple, concurrent projects.
  • Work closely with the Director, Legal Talent Office – Diversity, Equity & Inclusion and Talent Development (“Director”) and DMD to plan and coordinate all aspects of the Firm’s DEI programs and events, including planning and staffing events, scheduling meetings and programs, creating name tags and invitations, coordinating event RSVPs, and other administrative duties as needed.

In addition, responsibilities related to maintaining firm and client information are to be adhered to by all employees. This includes complying with the firm’s information security policies, protecting firm assets from unauthorized access, disclosure, modification, destruction or interference, and reporting security events or potential events or other security risks to management.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Ability to handle confidential information and sensitive matters with discretion and professionalism at all times.
  • Self-starter with strong organizational skills and high level of attention to detail.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills; an ability to work effectively with a wide-range of lawyers and staff and a commitment to responsiveness.
  • Ability to handle multiple, concurrent projects and generate quality work product in a fast-paced, deadline-oriented environment.
  • A commitment to the highest standards of excellence and professionalism that are the hallmarks of Sullivan & Cromwell’s legal practice.
  • Flexibility to work additional hours, as necessary.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

  • Event planning experience preferred.
  • Experience working at a law firm or similarly fast-paced professional services environment preferred.
  • B.A. or B.S. required.

COMPENSATION

The base salary range offered for this role will be between $58,000 and $68,000. When determining a candidate’s compensation offer, elements unique to each person are taken into consideration including but not limited to skill set, experience level, performance, professional certifications, degrees and location, as well as the needs of the Firm.
