Cornell University’s Statler Hotel has launched a search for an Assistant Front Office Manager to join our Front Office Team.

Your role as an Assistant Front Office Manager:
As a member of the Statler Hotel’s Rooms Division, reporting to the Front Office Manager, you will share in the responsibility of the overall management of the Front Office operations including Bellstand/Valet, Reservations, Night Audit, PBX, and Front Desk. You will help drive the team to create warm, genuine, and personalized experiences from the moment guests come into contact with our reception area until their departure, while delivering a personalized level of service. Among your duties, you will:
- Assist with the administrative management duties, including: tip reporting and weekly payroll, meeting financial goals, conducting inventories and ordering supplies. You will have the opportunity to complete projects and participate in management meetings as well as serve on committees in the hotel, school, and University.
- Serve as Manager-on-Duty (MOD) for the hotel, taking responsibility for the overall guest experience during their stay in the Statler Hotel and exercising discretion and independent judgment to ensure quality and service standards are met throughout the hotel. The MOD facilitates communication and cooperation between all operating departments, providing direction to staff, anticipating and responding to operational needs, maintaining inventory controls and overseeing cash handling procedures.
- Support the Front Office Manager in the recruiting, hiring, training and supervision of all staff. You will also participate in the teaching mission by providing coaching and mentoring to student employees of the Front Office and by cooperating with faculty and students as a part of classes or research that may be integrated into the operation.
What We Are Looking For In A Management Team Member:
- We are seeking candidates who have the right combination of college education, hospitality supervisory experience, and job skills to be an effective manager and leader in a busy, full-service hotel.
- To be successful, a Statler Manager must have the ability to provide inspirational training, coaching and mentoring to college students in an experiential learning environment.
- A Statler Manager should be a highly motivated, dynamic individual with a professional demeanor and superior customer service skills, indicative of a AAA rated Four Diamond hotel.
- With a business volume that frequently changes throughout the year, the candidate must be able to meet a flexible work schedule, that will include evenings, weekends and holidays.
Qualifications:
- Associate’s Degree in Hospitality Management; 1-2 years of related experience in a Hotel Front Office environment. Bachelor’s degree is preferred.
- Highly motivated, dynamic individual with a professional demeanor and superior customer service skills, indicative of a AAA rated Four Diamond hotel.
- Must be willing to work holidays, weekends, evenings and be flexible with a varied work schedule.
- Must be organized and able to multi-task.
- Proven ability to assume responsibility, exercise authority, and supervise a staff.
- Ability to troubleshoot and resolve guest problems quickly and calmly.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills.
- Professional demeanor fitting of a high end, four-diamond property.
- Computer skills are essential, including proficiency in Microsoft Excel, Word, and Outlook.
- Ability and enthusiasm to coach, mentor, and train students as well as other inexperienced staff.
