Performs varied and complex administrative duties in the management and coordination of a large specialized project and/or program. Requires independent judgment and application of established policies and procedures. Works under general supervision with evaluation based on overall results obtained.
About The Department And/or College
Working under the supervision of the Director for Pathways, Access, &Equity and under the Assistant Vice President for Diversity, Equity, & Inclusion, this position will oversee the implementation and execution of the strategic priorities for Mentor Tech and College Connect. This includes developing and sustaining intentional K-12 & Community College partnerships in order to lead pre-college on and off campus experiences for prospective students and leading the Mentor Tech – faculty, staff, mentorship program. The Assistant Director will work in collaboration across the university departments and programs related to college access, recruitment, retention, and student success of undergraduate and graduate students. This position will oversee various signature experiences for College Connect and Mentor Tech including the Back to School Fiesta, Classroom to Career Series, Networking Reception, and Spring Fling. The Assistant Director is responsible for the implementation of strategic goals and action plans to ensure the growth and success of the responsible areas, including overseeing budget, preparing reports, hiring & evaluating staff, program participant recruitment & engagement. This position will work across the university with key stakeholders, serve on and lead university committees, while working within the Division of Diversity, Equity, & Inclusion, under a cohesive team model centering diversity, inclusion, equity, and access.
Major/Essential Functions
  • Support the Director for PASE in maintaining the Mentor Tech and College Budgets. To include, but limited to budget projections, maintenance, reporting. Assisting with the annual Budget Preparation Activity and to ensure accuracy and compliance with university, division, local, state, and federal policies, and guidelines.
  • Represent DDEI at university recruitment events, resource fairs, and other tabling experiences, including Red Raider Orientation and Red Raider Roadshows.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
  • Provide leadership and vision for College Connect and Mentor Tech in collaboration with the Director for PASE to implement the standard for the attainment of goals and objectives.
  • Implement and utilize effective data collection, analysis and reporting systems to demonstrate program outcomes and to inform decision making for College Connect and Mentor Tech. To include but limited to Mid-Year, Annual, and Ad Hoc reports for unit and divisional leadership.
  • Collaborate with the Transition & Mentoring Programs leadership team to align policy, procedure, and programming that supports intersecting students using a unified cohesive team model.
  • Hire, train, supervise and develop assigned full-time, part-time, student staff, volunteers, and interns for College Connect and Mentor Tech.
College Connect
  • Oversees the continuous training and development of Campus Tour Guides. Including the updating and development of on-campus tour routes and alternative practices for engaging students on-campus.
  • Serves as liaison with Undergraduate Admissions related to on and off campus visits, presentations, or activities. Including frequent communication and collaboration on operational practices and protocol.
  • Leads College Connect signature experiences such as but not limited to: Bring TTU To You , Summer Camps, & Back to School Fiesta.
Mentor Tech
  • Leads to planning, coordinating, and implementation of targeted recruitment and outreach for Mentor Tech Program Participants (Mentors/Protégé)
  • Chairs the Mentor Tech - Mentor Cluster Leader (MCL) Advisory Council to include coordinating monthly meetings, agenda development, and professional development curriculum as part of the Mentor Roundtable Series.
  • Leads Mentor Tech signature experiences such as but not limited to: The Classroom to Career Series, Mentor Appreciation Month, Networking Reception, and Spring Fling.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Ability to understand the varying needs of middle, high school, and college level students from diverse backgrounds in a college/university setting with direct experience working with First-Gen, Low-Income, Rural, and other underrepresented or marginalized student populations.
  • Skill in academic advising, organization advising, college student development, educational transition, student engagement, co-curricular learning, and/or mentoring services
  • Knowledge of student development theory and practices related to program development of activities, camps, workshops, and presentation.
  • Demonstrated experience supervising and/or leading direct and indirect staff, volunteers, and student leaders
  • Demonstrated experience managing a budget, developing budget reports, reconciliations
  • Skill in working with college student retention, success and/or mentoring programs focused on advising, interventions, and persistence efforts.
  • Skill in working with middle or high school student populations, developing, coordinating, and facilitating activities and curriculum.
Required Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in the area of specialization or closely related field. Three years of related administrative and technical experience. Additional job related education may be substituted for the required experience on a year-for-year basis.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Knowledge in data assessment, interpretation, and analysis to create reports, assessments, and outcomes-based reporting
  • Skill in recruitment and outreach efforts to include: communication, marketing, and social media campaign development
  • Ability to utilize various technology including Microsoft Office applications (i.e., Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook) and web-based data systems
  • Skill in student retention, success, persistence, and graduation techniques of First-Gen, Rural, Low-Income, and other marginalized communities
  • Knowledge of research, theory, and frameworks focused on Faculty, Staff, or Peer Mentoring programs in a higher education or related setting.
  • Experience working in Mentorship programs in a higher education or related setting.
  • Two (2) years of demonstrated experience developing, planning, and implementing small, mid, and large-scale events and/or working with youth in educational transition or summer camp programming.
  • Two (2) years of direct experience working with college student retention, success, and/or mentoring programs focused on advising, interventions, and persistence efforts.
  • Ability to work in a deadline drive environment with competing priorities
  • Two (2) years of direct experience working with middle or high school student populations, developing, coordinating, and facilitating activities and curriculum.
  • Experience working with and engaging with Middle and Highschool student populations.
  • Master’s degree in higher education or related field
