The NYC Department of Sanitation (DSNY) is the world’s largest sanitation department, collecting residential and institutional garbage and recyclables daily and clearing litter, snow, and ice from miles of streets.
OMD – Business Intelligence and Analytics is the primary Business Intelligence and Analytics unit for the Department of Sanitation (DSNY). We are a small, independent team tasked with delivering timely analyses of critical operations and developing applications that increases the long-term analytical capabilities of the Department. Our current projects include:

• Develop data integration solutions between Agency front-end applications and enterprise reporting databases
• Application development to support DSNY’s operational requirements for internal stakeholders
• Produce and deliver agency wide operational and analytics reports to internal and external stakeholders

We do as much as we can with open-source, in-house development in Python, Pentaho Kettle ETL, JavaScript, but we also use off-the-shelf software like Informatica for ETL development. Our database and technology stack is diverse with wide use of SQL Server, Oracle, MongoDb , MySQL and PostgreSQL databases. Our reporting platforms are Power BI and Oracle BI.
OMD Analytics is seeking an experienced application developer, who has:

• Familiar with tools like Jira, Confluence and GIT
• Familiar with reporting tools like Power BI, Oracle BI, Tableau, Cliq etc.
• Familiar with back-end API development
• Familiar with ETL tools like Informatica, Pentaho Kettle, Talend etc.
• Strong expertise in frontend development using ASP, Dot Net, C Sharp, HTML & CSS,
• Strong backend development skills with strong SQL skills, proficient in writing stored procedures, triggers, cursors, indexing /optimizing tables using SQL Server and Oracle and familiar with NoSQL like MongoDb
• Used to writing unit tests and documenting projects
• Able to communicate complex ideas to non-technical personnel

The successful candidate would spend their time in developing and supporting frontend and backend applications, developing data integration solutions using ETL tools, writing complex SQL queries and stored procedures, python scripts or optimizing if possible.
The candidate would have significant latitude to propose and work on any project that would better support or allow new insight into DSNY operations. These could include:

• Optimizing SQL queries, ETL for use in data integration solutions
• Working with front-end developers to create responsive web applications that assist with daily operations
• Building reliable data pipelines to inform reports and analyses

The successful candidate would have the ability to make an immediate impact, working directly with New York’s Strongest to improve systems that directly impact New York City citizens every day.
The ideal candidate would also be willing to work overtime during major snow events or other emergency response events.

1. A baccalaureate degree from an accredited college and four years of satisfactory full-time experience related to the projects and policies required for the particular position; or,
2. Education and/or experience which is equivalent to "1" above.
