After School Instructor - Theater Arts

Description:We are seeking a part-time teacher to lead inventive theater classes for elementary school children after school, in one or more of the following disciplines: improv, devised playmaking, chorus, and musical theater. In addition to inviting students to learn about theater, instructors will strengthen and support students’ unique, creative voices in a simultaneously safe and brave space.

Instructors are the educators (Teachers, Coaches, Teaching Artists, etc.), who give instruction and leadership in specialized activities in after-school programs. These “club” activities can be artistic, athletic, academic, or recreational in nature. Activity Specialists are school teachers, experts in specific fields of study/endeavor, or individuals with comparable qualifications.
Duties and Responsibilities

• Implements course curriculum, and assists with its development
• Supervises children during transitions
• Plans, coordinates and oversees culminating events at the end of each cycle
• Supervises teaching assistants
• Works with teaching assistant to create lesson plans in accordance with course curriculum
• Communicates regularly with Site Supervisor and/or Director about student progress
• Leads classes with school-age children
• Requests supplies from Site Supervisor well in advance of class sessions

Requirements:

• University degree (preferred)
• Able to manage and give priority to multiple tasks. Exhibits creativity and innovativeness working in a fast-paced environment.
• Able to use own initiative, sound judgment, tact and diplomacy.
• Subject-matter expertise in a field consistent with the subject taught
• Patient, kind and friendly
• Strong leadership skills and the ability to effectively manage and correct conduct and performance of adults and children

Job Type: Part-time

Pay: $60.00 - $80.00 per hour
