GENERAL DUTIES


  • Under supervision, performs miscellaneous clerical, administrative, research or other work related to the operation of a College or other unit where such work is required on a part-time basis or for a period of limited duration.
  • There is one Assignment Level for this position. All personnel perform related work. This specification describes typical assignments; related duties may be assigned as

  • Performs routine clerical work; may answer and attend to telephone calls; maintain records,
  • Maximum tenure for any employee in this hourly position is 1040 hours per year.

  • Performs clerical library work, such as sorting and shelving books, performing data entry into library systems, or binding books and periodicals.
  • May operate computers, computer software, and other electronic equipment in performing assigned tasks.
  • Acts as cashier.
  • Enters and maintains departmental records such as inventory control records, rosters, directories, and schedules.

Position Overview


This is a part time position. Theater Usher will be reporting to Patron Services Coordinator.


General Responsibilities for Theater Usher position


  • Ushers facilitate a smooth, safe and enjoyable experience for theater-goers and rental clients.
  • Front-of-house duties include preparing the venue, being an information resource, managing traffic flow, enforcing client and theater policy, seating guests efficiently, maintaining safety and discretion, and executing post-show break down.


CUNY anticipates a return to fully onsite work during Fall Semester 2022 and this position is based in New York, NY.

  • Must demonstrate sufficient skills to perform the duties of the assigned tasks.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATOINS


  • Ability to multi-task and have quick response while retaining a professional and calm demeanor;
  • You must be willing to check-in your cell phone for the entire shift. (Theater has house phones for emergency calls which can be used with Patron Services Coordinator's approval.)
  • Disposition and physical ability to stand quietly for FOUR consecutive hours at a time;
  • Strong customer service skills, diplomacy and discretion.
  • Ability to take direction from Patron Services Coordinator and adapt to daily change;
  • Physical ability to lift metal stanchion posts (about 20 lbs) and an A-frame (with a teammate);
  • Punctuality, discretion, and strong accountability for the quality and quantity of your work;
  • Professional presentation (your person and your uniform); You must own a black-collared button-down shirt, black pants or knee-length skirt, comfortable professional flat black shoes, and a watch. Black blazer is optional.
  • Interest in learning about theater, the performing arts, and audience management;
  • Aptitude to foresee potential problems and have a pro-active attitude;


Compensation


This is a part-time position of up to 20 hours per week, scheduling of the days can be worked out.


Hourly rate is $15.61per hour. Appointment is on a per semester basis and subject to budgetary and renewal approval.
