Overview: University Settlement partners with 40,000 New Yorkers on the Lower East Side and in Brooklyn every year to build on their strengths as they achieve healthy, stable, and remarkable lives. For over 130 years, we've collaborated with our neighbors to pioneer highly effective programs that fight poverty and systemic inequality.
We work with New Yorkers of all ages. We infuse a commitment to civic engagement, equity, and communal action into each of our programs, which include early childhood education, mental health and wellness, benefits assistance and eviction prevention, adult literacy and education, healthy aging, community, and recreation centers, performing and visual arts, and youth development.
Responsibilities:
- Complete all necessary documentation and administrative tasks
- Create and lead engaging activities for up to 20 youth, ensuring safety and comfort of students throughout program
- Other duties as assigned by the Supervisor(s)
- Ensure that academic assistance is provided during homework period
- Design and implement lesson plans for multidisciplinary activities using knowledge of positive youth development and incorporating student feedback throughout school year
- Serve as a positive role model for youth and uphold professional behavior at all times
- Communicate with parents and caregivers regarding student progress and problem solving
- Plan and involve children in a range of multidisciplinary activities, design and implement thematic based lessons
- Maintain responsibility for designated program supplies and proper use of all facilities, including classrooms
- Work constructively with co-counselor and other colleagues; communicate regularly with supervisory staff
Qualifications:
- Must be over 18 years old
- Highly energetic, dynamic, and positive
- Experience working with middle and high school population
- HS Diploma or HSE required, current enrollment in college is a plus
- Ability to commit for the entire school year

Pay: $17.50 per hour
Schedule:
- 4 hour shift
- Afternoon shift
- Evening shift
- Monday to Friday
- After school
Ability to commute/relocate:
- New York, NY 10009: Reliably commute or planning to relocate before starting work (Required)
Experience:
- Childcare: 1 year (Preferred)
License/Certification:
- CPR Certification (Preferred)
- First Aid Certification (Preferred)
