We are ambitious in our goals and steadfast in the belief that clients deserve our very best. To achieve our highest aspiration, we invest in world-class, team-oriented individuals who are smart, driven, and principled – those who are eager to be part of something bigger than themselves. When you join Harris Williams, you are welcomed into a collegial environment where every individual has the opportunity to make an impact in a powerful and significant way. We invite you to learn more about careers at Harris Williams.
Associate Role
Associates at Harris Williams play an integral role in all the firm’s merger and acquisition advisory activities. Associates learn the deal process through live transaction work alongside seasoned banking professionals and are active contributors during every phase of the deal process. As an Associate, you have a high level of exposure to clients, represent the firm throughout the entire deal process, and cultivate a well-rounded skillset as an M&A expert.
Harris Williams seeks Associate talent to support continued firm growth and deal flow across our Richmond, San Francisco, Boston and Minneapolis offices. In Richmond, first year Associates work with a variety of industry verticals during their first six months before dedicating to an industry group. First year Associates recruiting for our Boston, Minneapolis or San Francisco offices will recruit for and join one of our 10 industry groups directly, which include:
  • Energy, Power & Infrastructure
  • Industrials
  • Transportation & Logistics
  • Specialty Distribution
  • Building Products & Materials
  • Healthcare & Life Sciences
  • Technology
  • Consumer
  • Aerospace, Defense & Government Services
  • Business Services
Along with your teammates, you will create major deal process deliverables, including:
  • Valuation Analysis
  • Confidential Information Memorandum
  • Management Presentation
  • Pitch Materials
Outside of deal execution responsibilities, Associates assist with various internal initiatives, including:
  • Recruiting activities, including interviews and campus events
  • Participating in marketing teams

Harris Williams values associates with different educational and professional backgrounds and look for people with the following attributes:
  • Committed worth ethic
  • Attention to detail
  • Collaborative working style
  • Resilience under pressure
  • Creative and strategic thinking skills
  • Excellent verbal & written communication skills
  • Intellectual curiosity and passion for live deal experience

  • Positive attitude
Training & Development
New first year Analysts and Associates convene in Richmond for a robust training program designed to integrate you into our culture, provide thorough knowledge of the M&A process, and prepare you to hit the ground running. The HW training program includes a week of valuation and modeling training with Wall Street Prep, followed by internally led training sessions detailing each key aspect of a sell-side M&A transaction. This is just the beginning of an extensive learning experience at Harris Williams.
Mentorship
Mentorship – both formal and organic – is critical to our people’s success. All Associates are assigned mentors who serve as your “go to” resource and help acclimate you to the role. Our lean deal teams, apprenticeship model, and flat organizational culture ensures you will also find additional mentors along the way.
