Job Summary
The Yard Manager is responsible for assisting the RDO in monitoring, managing, and maintaining the plant’s overall inventory level to remain consistent with stated turn guidelines, inventory to sales ratio, and costs of goods sold. Works under general direction of the RDO; exercises discretion and judgment on work priority on a regular basis; and some degree of creativity is expected.
This position will office out of Delano, PA but also support Packaging operations in Berlin, NJ. Overnight travel will be required (2-3 nights a month).
Principle Duties and Responsibilities
  • Ensures all inventory locations comply with company policies regarding storage, organization, labeling, etc.
  • Prepares various reports as required.
  • Assists the RDO in monitoring, maintaining, and managing all plant purchasing programs.
  • Follows-up on purchase orders to ensure their on-time arrival. This is to include the tracing of all inbound products (Rail & Truck).
  • Assists the RDO in maintaining and managing all inventory levels so the percentage of turns and inventory dollars to sales dollars remain within stated guidelines.
  • Serves as manager of Cycle Counter(s)
  • Assists RDO in buying and manufacturing for margin by understanding current market levels on re-man and species substitution options in relation to end product desired.
  • Initiates purchase orders for non-direct orders in the system.
  • Understands market trends to assist in determining when and what volume to purchase.
  • Manages aging inventory and monitors report to create “hit lists” so the Production and Sales Departments are aware of potential inventory problems.
  • Follows-up on all receiving claims and ensures they are resolved in a timely manner.
  • Monitors all plant inventory offsite locations and reconcile quarterly.
  • Works closely with the Sales Department to help address their specific individual needs, make them aware of any inventory problems or concerns, and communicate major market changes as necessary.
  • Performs other duties as required.
  • Negotiates offsite processing costs and coordinates stock transfers when needed.
  • Coordinates with sister plants on team inventory management to rectify over and under stock issues and to maintain inventory at optimal levels.
  • Assists the RDO in monitoring inventory levels and conditions so the plant does not run out of the necessary raw material.
  • Works closely with plant management to determine the inventory needs of the plant and what options may be considered when buying or using existing inventory.
Qualifications
  • Ability to successfully interact with all departments, organizational levels and the public
  • Demonstrated proficiency to manage multiple tasks, to set priorities, and to meet deadlines.
  • The ability to travel overnight is a requirement for this position.
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office including Excel, Word and Outlook.
  • Working knowledge of panel and lumber grades, different species, etc.
  • Demonstrated ability to be mobile in the work environment.
  • Working knowledge of lumber math and business math
  • Ability to apply business math to manufacturing processes.
  • Ability to use a computer terminal, and proficiency of the use of MS Office and other business software.
  • Full understanding of cuts and yields
  • Demonstrated skill in improving processes
  • Minimum of two years of experience managing inventory or experience in manufacturing.
  • A driver’s license and safe, reliable transportation is a requirement for this position.
  • Preferred bachelor degree in business or related discipline or equivalent experience.
  • Proficiency in the use of the English language in reading, writing and speaking.
  • Ability to pass a drug test
  • Minimum of two years of experience managing and supervising other employees.
