Job Description

We are seeking a talented Vice President of Human Resources to join our team at Cottingham & Butler, a leading and innovative insurance brokerage firm, headquartered in Dubuque, IA. As the VP of HR, you will play a pivotal role in shaping the company's human resources strategy and fostering a high-performance, inclusive, and engaged workplace culture. Specifically providing leadership and strategies as it relates to compensation & benefits, corporate training programs, talent management, retention, and recruiting.


This position requires the Vice President Human Resources to work in our Dubuque, IA office.


General responsibilities include:

  • Strategic HR Leadership:
  • Serve as a trusted advisor and business partner to the executive team.
  • Partner with leadership to identify talent needs, workforce planning/organizational design opportunities, and conduct meaningful succession planning to ensure a strong pipeline of talent.
  • Collaborate with leadership to develop and implement comprehensive HR strategies that align with the company's business objectives and aggressive growth plans.
  • Operational Leadership:
  • Monitor HR metrics and utilize data-driven insights to enhance HR processes and decision-making.
  • Manage and develop proactive talent acquisition strategies in support of a high growth, sales driven organization while maintaining an excellent candidate experience.
  • Oversee all HR functions, including talent acquisition, performance management, employee relations, compensation and benefits, training and development, and HR compliance.
  • Lead and mentor a team of HR professionals, fostering their growth and development while promoting a collaborative and positive work environment.
  • Establish and maintain HR policies and procedures in compliance with relevant employment laws and regulation.
  • Collaborate with department heads to address employee-related issues, resolve conflicts, and promote a harmonious work environment.
  • Culture & Engagement Champion:
  • Oversee the development and execution of training programs to enhance the skills and capabilities of the workforce and further connect to our guiding principle of lifelong learning.
  • Implement effective performance management programs to enhance employee performance and productivity.
  • Drive employee engagement initiatives and foster a culture that values diversity, inclusion, and employee well-being.


Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or a related field.
  • Proven experience as an HR leader with at least 5 years in a strategic managerial role, preferably within the insurance or financial services industry.
  • Experience with driving HR initiatives and aligning them with business goals.
  • Strong knowledge of HR best practices, employment laws, and regulations.
  • Exceptional leadership and communication skills with the ability to build strong relationships across all levels of the organization.
  • Demonstrated success in developing and implementing HR strategies that support business growth and talent development; specific experience in talent acquisition and leadership development preferred.
  • Experience in driving employee engagement initiatives and fostering a positive company culture.
  • Excellent problem-solving and decision-making capabilities, with a data-driven and analytical mindset.
  • HRIS experience in Workday or UKG preferred.
  • SHRM-SCP, SPHR, or other relevant HR certifications are a plus.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced and ever-changing environment, adapting to new challenges and priorities with pragmatic decision-making skills.
