The Vice President of Logistics Operations is responsible for the strategy to build and manage our third-party logistics operations including, but not limited to, managing customer, carrier and team member relationships and performance both in the US and Mexico. A successful individual in this position will be comfortable pivoting between “rolling up their sleeves” to manage and delegate responsibilities on day-to-day tactical issues as well as mapping out and executing strategic initiatives. The candidate must have experience setting goals, supervising employees, delegating tasks accordingly, monitoring performance, and conducting regular follow-ups with business objectives. The ability to make data driven decisions will be critical and the candidate will have to work with other internal stakeholders to identify what data is needed, how to interpret it, and how to react. This position also requires relationships with local and regional consolidation centers, suppliers, and partner carriers as well as relationships with customer contacts.
The Vice President of Operations must be knowledgeable of current industry trends and regulations, including an understanding of the transportation market’s capacity and rate dynamics. This person must be able to proactively identify and communicate issues while also implementing solutions for continuous improvement as they pertain to processes, service, cost, and profitability.
Responsible for all Third-Party Logistics Operations within United States, Mexico and Canada.
· Manage the team through making tactical decisions and improving processes while focusing on developing and executing a strategic plan.
· Lead, hire, train, mentor and develop managers to assist in overseeing 3 US locations and 3 locations in Mexico.
· Responsible for building a culture based on safety, continuous improvement and employee engagement.
· Delegate day-to-day responsibilities to leadership team while developing their abilities to problem solve & overcome obstacles.
· Manage budget and implement continuous improvement projects and performance metrics to improve financial performance.
· Establish positive relationships with customers & proactively seek opportunities to enhance service offerings (while assisting with new business pricing).
· Implement key performance metrics with key suppliers to define, measure, and improve appropriate service level (KPIs) for carriers, resulting in significant improvement in on time delivery and product quality.
· Drive discussions with stakeholders about strategic direction and analyze financial reports, customer expense, and other company data.
· Maintain awareness of all financial transactions, ensuring that projects are in line with their allotted budgets and establishing rates with carriers and providers.
· Establish compliance of all programs with state and federal regulations.
· Address safety concerns and customer complaints promptly.
· Collaborate with other managers and staff to formulate and implement procedures, goals, and objectives.
EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE/SKILL REQUIREMENTS:
· Bachelor's degree from four-year college or university; or five years minimum related management experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
· Experience in optimizing a transportation network, management methodologies, and workflow processes.
· Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals and governmental regulations.
· Strong computer skills including TMS.
· Proficient in all Microsoft Applications (Word, Excel, Outlook, Power Point).
· Senior management experience.
· Exceptional leadership and problem-solving skills.
· Must be able to work in a fast-paced environment.
· Must possess excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.
· Ability to maintain confidentiality.
· Must be able to travel within the US and into Mexico and Canada. Travel expectation of up to 25% of working time.
