Vice President, International Communications

Position Summary:
Reporting to the Senior Vice President, Corporate Communications, the Vice President, International Communications is responsible for setting and executing the worldwide Corporate Affairs strategy for all international markets in alignment with the Corporate Affairs teams and in support of business objectives. The position is a member of the Intercontinental, Major Markets, Corporate Communications and Corporate Affairs Leadership Teams, and partners closely with the commercial heads of the two regions. The position oversees above-market and in-market work, the latter inclusive of patient engagement in some markets.
- Build and strengthen the patient advocacy capability across the world in partnership with Global Advocacy Corporate Affairs teams
- Develop and execute the thought leadership programs for the heads of Major Markets and Intercontinental, sourcing and managing editorial opportunities throughout the year, in alignment with plans for other Global Leadership Team and Leadership Team members
- Key Responsibilities:
- The role is responsible for a team of over 60 plus employees around the world, with three direct reports.
- Be an active member of the two Commercial Leadership Teams and provide proactive communications counsel to the commercial heads.
- Lead the development and execution of the internal communications and employee engagement strategy by proactively driving ideas and programs that support culture evolution and an engaged workforce in partnership with HR and other functions.
- Develop and execute corporate reputation strategies at region and market level, including branding, digital and reputation assessment and tracking.
- Oversee the development and execution of the integrated communications strategy in partnership with Corporate Affairs across International Markets. Strategy components include media relations, brand and corporate communications, employee engagement, corporate reputation, issue management, digital and social media, patient engagement (mostly within local market work).
- Build and leverage strong networks with external stakeholders including media contacts to help support delivery of BMS work.
- Deliver appropriate communications strategies to maximize communications opportunities and mitigate relevant risks to the company and its assets by anticipating and preparing for stakeholder reactions to relevant corporate, brand, regulatory and data milestones.
- Lead the above-market implementation of the Corporate Reputation/CA Plan for Moonshot Markets.
Requirements:
- 20+ years of experience in Corporate Affairs, preferably in the pharmaceutical industry.
- Ability to manage roles with significant breadth and complexity.
- Substantial experience in managing culturally diverse, virtual teams.
- Bachelor’s degree in journalism, communications, or related field. Master’s degree preferred.
- Proven track record for sharp strategic analysis, including incorporating communications, policy and public affairs components into the strategic analyses that drive business decisions and growth.
- Deep understanding of access and policy environment across geographies along with existing relationships with top business, consumer and financial media globally.
- Experience with targeted stakeholders strongly preferred.
- Ability to influence at the senior level.
