Job Description

Our client is a privately held, fully diversified firm engaged in the acquisition, development, and management of multifamily properties. The firm has been in business for 50+ years and owns 3000+ units and ~ 75 employees. Growth continues to occur across all key financial and operational metrics as it pursues value-add and new ground up multifamily development opportunities in the Eastern US, Texas, and Colorado.

Role

The Vice President Human Resources serves as part of the senior leadership team reporting to the CFO/COO. The role has both strategic and hands-on day-to-day responsibilities. These include planning, developing, and implementing initiatives that support personnel acquisition and management, employee engagement, and customer services excellence. The VP is expected to be an enterprise-wide thinker as well as a tactical executer. Specific areas of responsibility include compensation, recruitment for all roles, employee and organizational development, reporting and analytics, and workforce strategic planning.


Responsibilities

  • Prepares all employee policy and procedure manuals including employee handbook, safety manual, and all training manuals. Assists managers with interpreting and enforcing policies and procedures.
  • Researches, develops, and implements staffing management, competitive compensation, benefits, performance appraisal, and employee incentive programs.
  • Represent the firm and manage the processes related to disability claims, workers’ compensation, unemployment insurance, leave of absence, and other employee benefits.
  • Document and investigate employee grievances when concerns are brought forth. Leads the resolution of human resources, compensation, and benefits questions, concerns, and issues.
  • Administers employee benefit programs. Communicate with vendors regarding enrollment, termination, transactions, and plan evaluations, as needed.
  • Maintains knowledge of laws, regulations, and best practices in employment law, human resources, and talent management.
  • Travels periodically between all affiliated sites for on-site personnel training and monitoring overall status.
  • Responsible for 401K program including enrollment, legal compliance, submitting employee deferrals, and coordinating company match.
  • Lead programs related to employee safety and security, emergency preparedness, and incident response planning including completion of OSHA requirements for each site.
  • Accurately perform payroll data entry procedures as needed including pulling reports for posting by accounting. Inspection and maintenance of related records is required ensuring tax reports are filed and notices are addressed.
  • Recommend employee relations practices necessary to maintain a positive employer-employee relationship and promote a high level of employee morale, motivation, productivity, and overall engagement.
  • Conducts recruiting, interviewing and hiring for all corporate level positions with assistance from appropriate department heads.
  • Collaborates with executive leadership to define the organization’s long-term mission and goals; identifies ways to support this mission through talent management.
  • Identifies key performance indicators for the organization’s human resource and talent management functions; assesses the organization’s success and market competitiveness based on these metrics.


Qualifications

  • Ability to foster an organizational culture that supports teamwork and collaboration.
  • Understanding of laws and regulations related to employment.
  • Minimum of 10 years of progressively responsible leadership experience in Human Resources including key areas such as talent attraction and retention, compensation, workforce development, performance management, and employee engagement.
  • Leads by example and models standards for professionalism and integrity.
  • Ability to leverage technology and apply critical thinking skills in all areas including maintaining knowledge in use of metrics, data, benchmarks, and surveys.
  • At least 5 years of experience administering 401K retirement plan and payroll processing. ADP Work Force Now experience, preferred.
  • Demonstrated experience in the multifamily industry is required with preferred experience covering both property acquisition and property management activities.
  • Demonstrated experience recruiting and retaining talent at all levels of the organization including entry-level and areas with higher churn.
  • Strong operational and business acumen, analytical skills, and skilled decision maker with transparency in decision-making and management.
  • Must be able to integrate with and communicate at all levels of the organization with outstanding interpersonal skills.
  • Bachelor’s degree in business administration, human resource management or related field is required. Professional HR certifications is strongly preferred.
  • Ability to translate strategic direction and long-term goals into specific projects with clear timelines.
