Telecom/Network Technician I

Configure, install, repair and maintain data, voice and/or network communications systems. Respond to user request for assistance in resolving related software and hardware problems. This position will interact on a consistent basis with: coworkers and user personnel/customers. This position typically will advise and counsel: NA. This position will supervise: NA

Job Duty 1 -
Review work orders and determine resources required for installation or repair/maintenance of data communications equipment.
Job Duty 2 -
Perform measurements, cut and splice wires and cables required in equipment installation and maintenance.
Job Duty 3 -
Inspect and test wiring and equipment operation.
Job Duty 4 -
Determine and enter correct settings for equipment
Job Duty 5 -
Connect computers equipment to data communications lines.
Job Duty 6 -
Maintain current working knowledge of telecommunications technologies, applications and trends.
Job Duty 7 -
May plan layouts and demonstrate equipment functions.
Job Duty 8 -
Perform other duties as assigned

Educational Requirements
High school diploma, GED Certificate or Vocational School Diploma
Other Required Qualifications
High visibility job; weekends and evenings may be at times required for special events, dinners, football games; position based on campus but expected to spend a minimum of 40% to 50% of time in assigned region
Required Experience
Four to five years of job related experience

Additional Preferred Qualifications
State of Georgia Low Voltage - Telecommunications or Low Voltage - Unrestricted License preferred
Preferred Educational Qualifications
Technical Diploma, Associate's Degree or two years college course work

Preferred: familiarity with college campus environments
Knowledge of VG(voice gateway wiring and concept)
Knowledge of LREs
Strong understanding of VOIP

SKILLS
This job requires basic knowledge and skills in the installation, repair and maintenance of data and voice cable and electronic equipment which includes skills in use of hand and power tools, testing equipment, laptop computers, etc. Skills in customer service, spoken communications, and organization are also required.
