The Network Engineer is expected to be the subject matter expert in relation to the NTT Global IP Network (GIN) facilities and hardware logistics. You will be overseeing rollouts of new technology on a major IP Backbone Network, and ensuring the network has the right equipment & capacity to continue to support our growth. You will be responsible for operational functions within GIN PoP locations as well as asset management, equipment sparing, and inventory levels. Often the Network Engineer will be required for onsite support of equipment installation, maintenance activity, migration work, or to conduct a site inspection/documentation/cleanup exercise.

Working at NTT

In this role you will:

  • Perform installation of network and cabling infrastructure for GIN in data centre facilities
  • Plan, order, and ship consumable inventory for daily activity and migration work
  • After hours support in some circumstances
  • Work closely with remote hands for troubleshooting, hardware replacement and installation
  • Provide & maintain site documentation for operational use throughout GIN
  • Deploy and assist troubleshooting for NTT owned DWDM/optical installations
  • Maintain and manage physical and remote access to facilities
  • Management of power consumption, pre-cabling and rack-space usage, liaising with internal teams and data centre providers to upgrade/optimize space
  • Abides by all policies and procedures
  • Contribute to process evaluation and best practices for internal and external customers
  • Manage projects to upgrade & improve facilities across GIN
  • Complies with all Ethics and professional standards

  • Participates and successfully completes all companywide mandate/training in a timely manner
  • Manage all equipment hardware logistics areas such as sparing, inventory control, asset management, RMA
  • Performs a myriad of tasks as required and/or assigned

What will make you a good fit for the role?

This role is perfect for you, if you:

  • B.S. degree in Computer Science, Information Technologies, Engineering or other technical discipline preferred
  • Data center or networking certifications a plus
  • Four plus (4+) years of working experience in engineering and or telecommunications

Skills and Core Competencies

  • Understanding of DWDM topologies, functions, and deployment standards
  • Experience with advanced testing tools and technologies (Smartbits, IXIA, Fluke, Digital Lightwave and similar equipment/technologies)
  • Ability to communicate, both internally and externally, in an effective, timely, professional and courteous manner
  • Ability to interface with all levels of employees, clients and vendors
  • Excellent planning, analytical, troubleshooting and communication skills
  • Skilled in organizing resources, establishing priorities, and implement effectively
  • Strong understanding of fiber optic cabling and how to troubleshoot signal flow
  • Hands-on experience with networking equipment and technologies of various vendors (Juniper, Cisco, Nokia, Fujitsu, and/or other)
  • Proven ability to work quickly and accurately with attention to detail
  • Experience working in large-scale datacenter/LAN environment
  • Strong problem resolution skills
  • Skilled in the use of personal computers and related software applications
  • Basic knowledge of AC and DC power
  • Ability to grasp new concepts and displays an overall excellent technical aptitude
  • Meticulous, understands the need for consistent record-keeping/documentation
  • Must be able to meet deadlines, work under pressure, and adapt to changing priorities in a fast-paced environment
  • Strong knowledge of data networks and the various related network elements
  • Accepts accountability for results
  • Follows instruction but has the ability to exercise independent judgment to complete tasks within GIN standards
  • Demonstrates mutual acceptance and respect of co-workers and develops strong working relationships
