Position Summary
The Senior IT System Administrator is responsible for performing highly complex systems administration and support work. The incumbent will install and maintain operating systems and related software to ensure stable performance including creating, managing and maintaining desktop images, troubleshooting computer images and process automation through scripting, while providing level 3 support to agency staff. This position will proactively work with other IT staff and agency employees.
Key Accountabilities (System Administrator)
Systems Application Support
  • Creates new software packages and task sequences for application and patch distribution via SCCM.
  • Creates Scripts using PowerShell.
  • Provide documentation and training to Service Desk support team.
  • Maintains and enhances Windows Desktop builds (imaging) via SCCM, application packaging, and endpoint rollout processes.
  • Creates desktop imaging and deployment tools.
  • Responsible for keeping up with trends in technology relating to Microsoft OS and applications.
  • Analyzes and resolves high-level desktop system and application problems.
  • Actively involved in Active Directory infrastructure and Group Policy Objects.
Project Management
  • Coordinates project related work and production
  • Collaborates with cross-functional teams to ensure timely completion of projects.
  • Maintains project tracking and provides status reports to senior leadership.
  • Participates in special Information Technology projects as assigned.
  • Plans and coordinates hardware and/or software implementation efforts.
Client Services
  • Escalates trouble call assignments as required, notifying management of critical outstanding issues.
  • Troubleshoots complex PC hardware and software problems with users, determines source and advises on appropriate actions.
  • Documents all work performed in a highly detailed and accurate manner.
  • Helps teach and guide users on new and innovate ways in the use of technology to achieve their business needs.
  • Performs related work as assigned.
  • Ensures status is provided to agency users regarding IT related issues and outstanding Client Services calls.
Key Accountabilities (System Administrator Senior)
Systems Administration Support

  • Builds, configures, and troubleshoots Windows Services Update Server (WSUS). Including testing and deployment of critical security patches and Windows Defender Antivirus updates.
  • Creates Scripts using PowerShell.
  • Creation of desktop imaging and deployment tools.
  • Troubleshoots networking and operating system problems.
  • Monitor primary site and all SCCM clients in order to maintain high service availability.
  • Responsible for keeping up with trends in technology relating to Microsoft OS and applications.

Minimum Required Qualifications
Required Education
  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in information technology, computer science or a closely related field.
  • High school diploma or equivalent and additional full-time experience in information systems, telecommunications, computer operations or similarly related experience may be substituted on an equivalent year-for-year basis.
Required Experience
  • A master's degree or doctoral degree in a directly related field may be substituted on an equivalent year- for-year basis.
  • Experience with System Center Configuration Manager.
  • Experience with PowerShell scripting.
  • Four(4) - Five (5) years of full-time directly related, progressively responsible experience in Systems Administrator or similarly related experience.
Required Registration, Certification, or Licensure
  • None
Preferred Qualifications
  • One (1) year of Project Management experience which includes the preparation of project related documentation, planning & managing project activities, and the implementation of projects or maintenance activities.
  • Experience with VMware View.
  • Working knowledge of helpdesk management software and general helpdesk best practices and processes.
  • Experience with PowerShell scripting.
  • Experience with System Center Configuration Manager.
  • Certification in Microsoft Office and/or Operating Systems.
  • Experience assembling, installing and repairing PC hardware and software.
  • Training and/or certification in ITIL v3
  • Experience with BitLocker Encryption.
  • Experience with McAfee Endpoint Encryption.
  • Experience with Intune Administration.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Knowledge of:
  • Considerable knowledge of the practices, principles, and techniques of computer operations.
  • Considerable knowledge of Microsoft Windows operating systems, Office suites, and general PC hardware and software used in a business environment.
Skills in:
  • PowerShell scripting with the ability to create and modify as needed.
  • Exceptional skill in communication of complex technical information via telephone to people of all levels of technical skill and knowledge.
  • Using a computer in a Microsoft Windows environment with work processing, spreadsheet and other business software.
  • Exceptional skill in troubleshooting complex PC hardware and software problems.
  • Creating SCCM packages and task sequences.
  • Planning, organizing and coordinating work assignments to effectively meet frequent and/or multiple deadlines, handling multiple tasks simultaneously, and in managing conflicting priorities and demands.
Ability to:
  • Work extended and irregular hours due to internal and external obligations, and to travel occasionally for training.
  • Establish and maintain harmonious working relationships with co-workers, agency staff and external contacts, and to work effectively in a professional team environment.
