GENERAL DESCRIPTION:


To coordinate on-going educational programs for all departments in order to enhance organizational growth. To act as an advisory and resource base for department heads for inter-departmental in-service.


Skill Set


A staff development coordinator must have solid leadership skills. It’s essential that he/she has a solid understanding of the company’s needs, enabling them to choose relevant and effective training programs. Must be an excellent communicator, with the ability to easily learn new skills and teach them to others. He/she is extremely detail oriented and organized, patient and a good listener. A staff development coordinator must be a people person, as spends their days working directly with other professionals.


Must be a licensed RN with previous experience in Long Term Care and in managing/supervising staff. He/she must possess proficient knowledge of the rules and regulations governing Long Term Care in order to enable teaching.


Responsibilities of the position will include:


  • Any duties as requested by supervisor.
  • Conduct orientation at lease weekly or as needed
  • Do PPDs for all staff and keep accurate documentation of such. Using the tools/procedures set forth by company
  • Coordinate Flu Clinic for employees and residents yearly.
  • Work with Representative in absence of Wound Nurse
  • Do observations of staff skills.
  • Assist the DON/ADON and Administrator as requested.
  • Test staff according to skills needed to perform job
  • Document accurately all in services and Health Care Academy compliance
  • Conduct in- services as need per DON or designee in conjunction with both facility and regulatory compliance to include ad hoc and mandatory as needed but at least monthly
  • Keep records of CPR Certification and Cards of all Employees and monitor to coordinate renewals with Classroom Education nurse
  • Keep accurate records of Incontinence Products and MDS information regarding incontinence.
  • Participate with weekend call.
  • Attend QA Meetings monthly.
  • Attend Daily Clinical Meetings- unless teaching orientation class at that time
  • Provide list of staff who has failed to attend in-services as required along with Health Care Academy class to department heads monthly
  • Attend Policy/Procedure Review Meeting.
  • Obtain Orientee Tests, grade them and provide teaching when needed to new employees.
  • Perform needed competencies for all staff and maintain records of successful completion on hire and at least annually
  • Attend PAR Meetings weekly.
  • Perform QI Rounds weekly and report to appropriate person.
  • Perform PCC training for all staff using PCC


Additional Responsibilities


The staff development coordinator may also be responsible for creating and maintain a training budget. They may be required to search for conferences and external training events that would benefit individual or small groups of employees and recommend these programs to their managers. They may also assist the training and development manager vendor selection, choosing materials with content that best fits the company mission. Overnight travel is also common in this profession, as they may need to attend various seminars and training sessions to learn new information to bring back to the company and teach to employees.


Requirements


  • Must be knowledgeable of nursing & medical practices and procedures, as well as laws, regulations and guidelines that pertain to long-term care.
  • Must possess, as a minimum, a Nursing degree from an accredited college or university.
  • Must possess a current license as an RN.
  • Must have previous experience in Long Term Care and previous experience managing/supervising staff.
  • Prior supervisory experience and management training required
