UCT is seeking an experienced and talented Sr. Process Engineer to join our team in Fremont, CA! This position will be responsible for managing/overseeing ongoing site engineering activities. Requires experience in program management, engineering cost estimation, Quality disciplines, statistical methods, semiconductor processes, parts cleaning and coating.


Essential Duties and Responsibilities:


  • Applying the principles of mass, momentum, and heat transfer to process and equipment design, including conceptual, scheme, and detailed design
  • Proven experience in Kaizen concepts, Lean Manufacturing
  • Work closely with Sales to interface with the customer in support of new and existing business activities
  • Working knowledge of quick-turn, engineer-to-order environment
  • Supporting the conversion of small-scale processes into commercially viable large-scale operations
  • Demonstrated experience in process development and yield improvement
  • Assume responsibility for environmental monitoring and ongoing process
  • Making observations and taking measurements directly, as well as collecting and interpreting data from the other technical and operations staff
  • Work closely with Operations Site managers and Sales to deploy Engineering solutions including technical problem solving, work instruction issues, and other Engineering activities as needed
  • Manage site Engineering Technicians

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:


  • Assessing the availability of raw materials and the safety and environmental impact of the plant
  • Preparing reports, flow diagrams and charts
  • Managing the cost and time constraints of projects and tasks
  • Working closely with other specialists, including scientists responsible for the quality control of raw materials, intermediates and finished products; Engineers responsible for plant maintenance; commercial colleagues on product specifications and production schedules; and the operating crew.
  • Assessing processes for their relevance and assessing the adequacy of engineering equipment
  • Ensuring processes work at optimum levels, to the right rate and quality of output, in order to meet supply needs
  • Ensuring that all aspects of an operation or process meet specified regulations
  • Reviewing existing data (also lab analyses) to identify and interpret trends as well as to determine if more research or types of information need to be collected
  • Working closely with Quality and Operations as well as other Engineers to monitor and improve the efficiency, output and safety of a plant
  • Designing, installing, and commissioning new production units, monitoring modifications and upgrades, and troubleshooting existing processes


Educational/Certification Requirement:


  • Master’s or higher degree, or equivalent post-graduate education in above subjects preferred
  • Minimum Bachelor’s degree in Chemical or Mechanical Engineering, Metallurgy, Chemistry or Physics


Work Experience Requirements:


  • 8+ years related experience in high-technology manufacturing, preferably in semiconductor capital equipment or related industry


Work Environment:


This job is usually performed in a professional office environment, routinely using standard office equipment such as computers, telephones, photocopiers, filing cabinets and other related equipment. The employee will also be expected to be present in the manufacturing areas as required. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is occasionally exposed to fumes or airborne particles, moving mechanical parts and vibration. The noise level in the work environment and manufacturing areas can occasionally be moderate or loud.


Physical Demands:


While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk or hear. The employee frequently is required to stand; walk; use hands to finger, handle or feel; and reach with hands and arms. The employee is required to sit; climb stairs, maintain balance; employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 10 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust optical focus.


Travel Requirements:


  • Work may require out of town travel depending upon assignment (training and meeting).

The pay range for this position at commencement of employment is expected to be between $86,900 and $139,000/year; however, base pay offered may vary depending on multiple individualized factors, including market location, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. The total compensation package for this position may also include other elements, including variable pay and discretionary awards in addition to a full range of medical, financial, and/or other benefits (including 401(k) eligibility and various paid time off benefits, such as PTO and parental leave), dependent on the position offered. Details of participation in these additional compensation and benefit plans will be provided if an employee receives an offer of employment.


If hired, employee will be in an “at-will position” and the Company reserves the right to modify base salary (as well as any other discretionary payment or compensation program) at any time, including for reasons related to individual performance, Company or individual department/team performance, and market factors.
