Otis Americas is seeking a Labor Relations Manager to manage labor and employee relations for its union represented employees in the United States and Canada. This position will report to the Director of Labor & Employee Relations. The LR Manager position is responsible for developing and implementing labor and employee relations initiatives and strategies in the United States and Canada.
Job Responsibilities Include:
  • Conduct internal investigations and present findings/recommendations to management
  • Act as a chief spokesperson for the Company in single and multi-employer negotiations with bargaining unit representatives
  • Frequent interaction with Union officials
  • Establish labor relations strategies regarding Otis Americas’ unionized workforce and our employees’ bargaining representatives that align with and support Otis Regional, Americas, and global priorities and goals
  • Prepare and present the Company’s position in grievance meetings, arbitrations, and government agency proceedings
  • Ensure workplace compliance with federal and state employment laws and regulations
  • Participate in and contribute to key decisions relating to labor and employee relations strategies for Otis Americas
  • Prepare, coordinate and assist with Company pre-negotiations collective bargaining strategy and the internal economic approval request process
  • Develop and conduct management training programs and campaigns in support of Otis Americas labor and employee relations strategies
  • Provide advice and counsel to management on all matters involving labor and employment law and labor contract interpretation and administration
  • Provide counsel and direction regarding employment practices; ensure compliance with Company policy, procedures, and programs; interpret and provide guidance to employees and managers
Education
  • Law degree and/or Master degree in Industrial Relations strongly preferred. Will consider Masters degree in related field and/or substantive equivalent experience.
  • Bachelor’s degree required.
Experience /Qualifications
  • Strong analytical and persuasive written/oral communications skills are critical.
  • Ability to travel if needed. Business travel is estimated at about 15% of the manager’s time annually.
  • 5+ years of progressively responsible experience in the Labor Relations field or practice.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of current federal, state and local labor and employment laws and regulations.
  • Significant experience with conducting complex investigations, labor contract analysis and interpretation, collective bargaining negotiations and representing management in grievance, arbitration and agency proceedings with proven results.
  • Previous experience working with and providing guidance to senior leadership in labor and employee relations.
  • Excellent leadership, exceptionally strong customer focus and adherence to completed staff work are required to be successful in this position.
  • Well-organized, self-motivated, process oriented, impeccable ethics and integrity, and a team player.
