Reporting to a Manager/Senior Scientist of Formulations Research, the Senior Research Associate, Formulations Chemistry will execute a variety of critical product characterization testing of electronic nicotine delivery systems. This is an important role in furthering product research & development activities at Juul Labs.

The Senior Research Associate, Formulations Chemistry is a hands-on , laboratory-based role that will be responsible for helping to design and test products and novel prototypes, with a focus on the chemical characterization of our products. Working closely with scientists and engineers in the Juul R&D group the Senior Research Associate, Formulations Chemistry, should be comfortable around standard chemistry lab equipment/methodology such as gas chromatography, mass spectrometry, pH, and liquid chromatography. We are looking for someone who is flexible, can work well independently, and can respond quickly, energetically, and enthusiastically to changes. As the Senior Research Associate, Formulations Chemistry, the successful candidate is expected to demonstrate a mid-level understanding of the subject matter in more than one functional area and is capable of independently learning new experimental methods and processes. Additionally, the capability of explaining complex results and the importance of work performed to cross-functional teams of scientists and nonscientists and can answer most of the questions. Lastly, possessing the capability of operating in a mostly autonomous fashion on day-to-day projects and tasks, with weekly assistance or guidance from a manager or mentor.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Demonstrate functional and contextual knowledge to advise and influence decisions from stakeholders
• Maintain lab equipment in working order
• Troubleshoot test methods and device issues
• Achieve outlined goals by using judgment to apply well-established methods/technologies/frameworks to solve complex problems
• Write, execute and present test protocols and reports on the results
• Conduct chemical characterization testing of liquids and aerosols associated with electronic nicotine delivery systems
• Work with consumer and engineering teams to optimize the chemistry of our products
• Learn new analytical methodology for characterizing our products

PERSONAL AND PROFESSIONAL QUALIFICATIONS:

• Strong communicator who is able to work effectively with peers and management alike in a high-paced global environment
• Preferred knowledge of coding/programming
• Preferred knowledge, and preferably, hands-on experience with Thermo or Agilent equipment platforms and data processing software
• Preferred knowledge of statistics
• Preferred experience in Formulations chemistry, stability testing methods
• Demonstrated experience in a laboratory setting to include basic laboratory procedures such as weighing, quantitative transfer, and volumetric dilutions
• Knowledge, and preferably hands-on experience with gas chromatographic techniques and instrumentation such as GC-MS, HPLC, HS-GC, LC-MS
• Hands-on lab experience and 2+ years of relevant industry experience

EDUCATION:

• BS/MS in chemistry, chemical engineering, or related field
• Coursework in analytical chemistry essential

SALARY RANGES:

Salary varies by role, level and location, and is dependent on the cost of labor in a given

geographic region among other factors. These ranges may be modified at any time.
