The Senior Planner earns a competitive salary of $58,939.53 - $70,727.43/year, based on qualifications. Additionally, the city pays all premiums for our employees' dental, long-term disability protection, and life insurance plus the majority portion of the medical premium for employees and their dependents. A DAY IN THE LIFE AS A SENIOR PLANNER

Job Summary

The purpose of this job within the organization is to provide support to the public for development by conducting planning activity on comprehensive planning, plat, and zoning review. This position also performs a variety of complex planning functions including administration and enforcement of the Unified Development Code, facilitating, and managing land use applications through the review process, assisting in the development or amendments of land use codes and plans, and more.

This job works independently, under limited supervision, reporting major activities through periodic meetings.

Essential Functions

• Provides assistance to developers, landowners, and City staff for all portions of the Unified Development Code; assists other staff in interpreting the Unified Development Code and applying the code correctly.
• Prepares staff reports, graphics, and visual presentations of zoning and development proposals.
• Gathers data from various other organizations to prepare reports on land use activities; prepares staff reports, agendas, ordinance packets, and comments for pre-development.
• Acts as the liaison to the Council, Planning Commission, and Zoning Board of Adjustment.
• Assist the Assistant Director with daily operations of the Planning Division.
• Makes staff presentations for cases; processes applications and writes staff reports for various cases.
• Provides support to the public for development by conducting planning reviews for the comprehensive plan, plat, and zoning requests.
• Reviews site plans for compliance with the Unified Development Code.
• Provide support for developers, landowners, and citizens at pre-development and consultation meetings.
• Provides support for planning staff on reviewing permits, staff reports, and customer service issues.

Additional Duties

• Processes Zoning and CUP applications; checks posted notifications by applicant; answers citizen concerns from notifications.
• Conducts site inspection visits and field investigations for site and landscape plan, and façade elevation compliance.
• Performs related work as assigned.
• Reviews minutes from meeting and provides corrections.
• Fills in for the Planning Manager as the staff liaison to the City Council, Planning and Zoning Commission, and Zoning Board of Adjustment in the absence of the Planning Manager.
• Prepares and posts notifications (online, newspaper, and on bulletin board).
• Performs completeness review on applications.

Requirements

Minimum Education and Experience Requirements:

• Requires four years planning or closely related experience.
• Requires a master's degree in urban planning or closely related field.

Special Certifications And Licenses

• American Institute of Certified Planners
• Valid Texas Driver's License.
