About The Team


Zillow is on a mission to transform home buying, selling, and financing. The Seller team is creating the experiences and offerings that help our customers sell their home and unlock their equity. The selling journey is complex and fraught with uncertainty. Sellers struggle to understand how much they can sell their home for, what options they have to sell their home, and which is best for them. Many of them are also faced with the added complexity of buying their next home while selling their current one. Our team is focused on solving these challenges for Sellers, building relationships with them, and helping them take next steps when they are ready to transact. We operate in a startup-y environment, are growing our business from the ground up, and are looking to scale quickly.


This team is responsible for the backend and web services in the seller journey, with a current focus on top and middle of the funnel. The latest features include presenting homeowners with a flow to get multiple selling options that include a cash offer and an option to work with one of our agent partners through a traditional listing process. Seller is one of the big bets for Zillow and there are a lot of opportunities to seize the market.


About The Role


As a Senior Software Development Manager for the Seller Team, you will lead a full-stack team, while working closely with product managers, stakeholders, and other engineering teams, in order to build a comprehensive and compelling seller experience. This is a growing business and has a lot of visibility across the company and our Senior Leadership Team.


You will be peers with amazing agile experts managing other full-stack and mobile teams to shape the future of the experience for customers looking to sell their homes. We are taking a unique approach to aligning several teams around a common backlog so that we can iterate quickly and adjust priorities as we learn from the product in the wild across numerous market expansions planned throughout the year.


You will:


  • Design the systems necessary to expand our suite of products while balancing speed-to-market, and scalability for customer-facing features.
  • Uphold a high standard of software engineering excellence, working closely with your peers to identify gaps and areas for engineering improvements
  • Cultivate leadership skills within your team by fostering an inclusive environment and providing opportunities for growth and development.
  • Foster strong cross-functional relationships across the organization to promote collaboration and ensure alignment on project goals.
  • Continuously reiterate upon the SDLC process on the team and determine what works best so we are able to deliver quality software predictability.
  • Manage a team of 6+ software engineers, providing guidance and support to ensure successful project outcomes.


This role has been categorized as a Remote position. “Remote” employees do not have a permanent corporate office workplace and, instead, work from a physical location of their choice which must be identified to the Company. Employees may live in any of the 50 US States, with limited exceptions. In certain cases, an employee in a remote-designated job may need to live in a specific region or time zone to support customers or clients as part of their role.


In California, Colorado, Connecticut, Nevada, New York City and Washington the standard base pay range for this role is $191,000.00 - $305,000.00 Annually. This base pay range is specific to California, Colorado, Connecticut, Nevada, New York City and Washington and may not be applicable to other locations.


In addition to a competitive base salary this position is also eligible for equity awards based on factors such as experience, performance and location. Actual amounts will vary depending on experience, performance and location.


This role has been categorized as a Remote position. “Remote” employees do not have a permanent corporate office workplace and, instead, work from a physical location of their choice which must be identified to the Company. Who you are


  • Iterative approach to software development combined with the commitment to ownership, moving fast and thinking big
  • At least 5 years of management experience, with a proven track record of developing and leading high-performing engineering teams
  • Passion for mentoring, growing the potential of others, and supporting direct reports.
  • Advanced knowledge in cloud native architecture and development
  • At least 7 years of software development experience, on both backend and frontend technologies
  • Collaborative working style with a strong focus on well-adapted execution and results
  • Self-motivated with the ability to thrive in fast-paced, complex environments with minimal oversight
  • Advanced knowledge in both NoSQL and SQL databases
