Senior Industrial Designer Jobs

JOB SUMMARY:
This design position is responsible for assisting in development of new product by conceptualizing and illustrating the ideas set forth by the product development team. As a key member of that team, this individual will also be a part of the creative collaboration to bring exciting new product to the boating industry. This position plays a critical role in establishing Godfrey Marine as a leader in innovation, design, and quality.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES :

• Develops and maintains designs in support of the product plan, with a strong focus on furniture and the boat's interior layout
• Sketch, model, prototype, and storyboard concepts to communicate product vision
• Monitor projects during the Concept and Development phases
• Willingness to work variable schedule to assure successful project completion
• Define and craft the industrial design of new products by collaborating with external design partners and internal stakeholders
• Market research support and competitive analysis
• Balance product appeal, functionality, and manufacturability to create designs that enhance the boating experience
• Ability to work independently with minimal supervision
• Excellent problem-solving skills are a must
• Contribute to productive brainstorm sessions and concept creation workshops
• Excellent written and oral communication skills
• Create critical design touch points and consumer experience narratives
• Participate in trend evaluations, early concept development and rapid experiments
• Ability to research and troubleshoot problems

Non-essential Job Functions

• Individuals may need to sit or stand as needed. May require walking primarily on a level surface throughout the day. Reaching above shoulder heights, below the waist or lifting as required to file documents or store materials throughout the workday. Proper lifting techniques required. May include lifting more than 25 pounds. Periodically required to climb ladders to gain access to the interior of boats.

SKILLS & KNOWLEDGE

• Understanding of various materials and manufacturing processes for metal, aluminum, composite, and plastic materials
• Bachelor's degree in Industrial Design or related field
• Understanding of upholstery and sewing practices using foam, vinyl, and various substrate materials
• Strong aesthetic sense and artistic skill

Other Skills/Abilities

• Strong skills with 3D modeling, rendering and visual creation software platforms such as Solidworks, Rhino, Adobe Creative Suite, etc.
• Boating experience is not required, but a general knowledge and passion for creating recreational products is a must
• Excellent personal computer skills--word processing, spreadsheets, and databases
