Job Description

LOCATION: Washington, DC or San Francisco, CA

STATUS: Full-Time

PROGRAM AREA: Communications

SALARY RANGE: $100,000-$120,000

Position Summary:

KFF is a nonprofit leader in health policy analysis, polling and survey research, and health journalism. Its mission is to fill the need for trusted information on national health issues. KFF serves as a nonpartisan source of facts, information, and analysis for policymakers, the health care community, and the public.

KFF is seeking a skilled graphic designer to oversee KFF’s visual identity and creative presentation of its research across multiple platforms (websites, data visualizations, social media, and printed collateral). This is a new position that will be part of KFF’s Communications department within the Digital and Creative team, and the individual will report to the Senior Director, Digital and Creative. Importantly, this is the only in-house creative design position within KFF so the individual will play a critical role in terms of shaping the overall brand identity, which was recently updated, developing creative assets for external communications, providing counsel on brand and related guidelines, and working across the organization to support the programmatic goals and strengthen KFF’s communications overall.

The designer’s primary focus will be to lead and execute KFF’s visual identity and ensure its consistency across multiple channels. The individual will also create data-driven graphics in a variety of formats, working with teams across the organization to learn what will be effective. The ideal candidate is both a creative leader and a doer who is an effective collaborator in a fast-paced environment.

Candidates should be data savvy, experienced working in multi-faceted organizations, and inspired to help a leading health policy organization strengthen the way it presents complex data concepts and policy research in a nonpartisan manner.

  • Assist with ongoing efforts to ensure ADA accessibility compliance across KFF digital channels.
  • Partner internally to help design occasional print products.
  • Serve as an ongoing resource to educate and advise research teams on effective application of color, typography and formats for charts, graphs and data visualizations. Facilitate a creative review process to ensure visuals are on brand and effective.
