Job Description

RaceTrac Company Overview

:

The Food Safety Specialist will assist and support leadership in ensuring Good Retail Practices (GRP's) or Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP’s) are being followed and the wholesomeness of food is maintained at both retail and wholesale segments of RaceTrac. This individual will perform duties in a manner to ensure compliance with applicable rules and regulations, such as Code of Federal Regulations (CFR), FDA Model Food Code, and other applicable health codes. The Specialist will collect and analyze real-time data in all areas of food safety (including food product temperatures and/or equipment verification, product packaging and labeling, food employees handling procedures, cleaning and sanitizing procedures, and handling of approved toxic substances for pest control and sanitation) through risk-based inspections of food establishments and report findings and help generate solutions per industry best practices and/or regulations standards. Up to 50 – 70% travel may be required.

Responsibilities:

  • Assists with internal and external audits using a risk-based approach to objectively identify food safety and health opportunities in process controls at retail and wholesale sites; This will include observing employees and processes for personal hygiene, food preparing, storing, packaging, labeling, and maintenance of sanitary operations through proper use of toxic substances and equipment and facility cleaning and sanitizing, and detailed record reviews.
  • Assists with in-process verification and root cause analysis of safe-handling procedures to ensure standardization and proper implementation at retail and distribution segments of tests, new and ongoing processes, equipment testing and functioning, and other verification tasks as needed
  • Accompanies third-party auditors on field audits for safety, quality, and brand standard monitoring
  • Supports with organizing and maintaining supplier-vendor data for initial supplier-vendor approval and ongoing renewals
  • Provides support, information sharing, technical assistance and in-service coaching based on approved standard operating procedures (SOPs) or guides to food personnel regarding health and food sanitation, rules and regulations and re-enforcement
  • Supports in creating and implementing preventive and corrective actions to ensure food safety compliance as well as proper follow up protocols
  • Prepares risk assessment reports through records of key findings and assist with developing sustainable solutions
  • Supports the implementation and development of best practices that promotes and enables food safety deliverables
  • Develops and maintains working knowledge of current applicable local, state, and federal regulations, health codes, including internal policies and industry best practices
  • Works collaboratively with key functional and operational stakeholders to assist in developing trainings, training materials, and presentations for food personnel to promote compliance with regulatory food safety and quality standards
  • Assists in crisis management situations in the area that requires food safety support
  • Maintains and assists with verification of accuracy on consumer advisories, labeling, nutritional labeling, and other labeling required by regulations and/or internal processes

Qualifications:

  • ServSafe certified (pass rate at >90%)
  • 3+ years of experience in related field
  • Intermediate knowledge of Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, OneDrive)
  • Bachelor’s degree with a science concentration in biology, chemistry, microbiology, public/environmental health or other related area from an accredited college or university
  • Knowledge of HACCP principles and its applications
  • CP-FS certification preferred
