The Primal Pet Group includes manufacturers of fully prepared, human-grade raw foods, treats, and supplements for dogs and cats. Job Summary


This position will entail the ongoing assurance of the food safety and specifications of all products produced in the plant. As well, the Quality Manager will be responsible for overseeing and enforcing quality, food safety, and sanitation policies, procedures, and standards throughout the production facility.


Responsibilities and Duties


  • Create a positive work environment that rewards superior performance. Reports and documents violations of policies.
  • Periodic inspection of all aspects of the operation and report deficiencies
  • Non-conformance root cause analysis, and corrective action
  • Customer complaint resolution and preventative action
  • Maintain the GMP, SQF, OSHA, ORGANIC & HACCP based food safety certification systems
  • Implement, Maintain and Update food safety support programs, processing procedures, and task instructions
  • Maintain a safe conscience manufacturing environment by ensuring all potential hazards are addressed and corrective actions are in place when necessary
  • Other duties as assigned
  • Filling the demands of day-to-day operations by stepping in and filling in for different roles when needed and completing other tasks as assigned
  • Verify and validate food safety and quality processing controls
  • Conducts quality audits such as third-party audits, customer audits, and internal audits. Ensures compliance with the “Recall and Recovery Plan”.
  • Manages Pest Control Program, Uniform, and Laboratory vendor relationship.
  • Ensures compliance to all regulatory standards including HACCP (Hazard Analysis Critical Control Point), FSMA (Food Safety Modernization Act), and SSOP’s (Sanitation Standard Operating Procedures), etc.
  • Lab testing including microbiological analysis, pH, processing aid chemical concentration. Maintain and validate water activity testing on a regular basis.
  • Develops and manages quality control metrics for performance and working with cross-departmental team’s implements continuous improvement agenda and procedures
  • Train and oversee Quality Technicians. Ensures that quality technicians maintain the desired level of department performance by (1) managing quality assurance checks including monitoring AQL’s (acceptable quality levels); (2) validating quality checks against production specifications for both attribute and variable data collection and; (3) managing products placed on hold.
  • Oversees Master Sanitation Plan adherence and coordinates with third-party sanitation team.
  • Generates ideas to improve quality procedures and participates in the development and implementation of new policies, procedures, and/or programs.


Qualifications and Skills
  • Experience with Customer and Vendor management as well as familiarity with third-party auditing processes
  • Ability to prioritize and follow-through to achieve results and meet deadlines to meet the needs of the business
  • Exceptionally strong communication skills, both oral and written, and strong managerial skills including good judgment, planning, organizing, innovative approach to problem-solving, motivate employees
  • Strong leadership skills, with an ability to build trust, provide direction, and vitality to execute with excellence and achieve extraordinary results.
  • Ability to use mathematical and statistical knowledge to assess data and determine process capabilities
  • Fluent with Microsoft Office, including Excel, Word, and Outlook
