Job Description

Position Summary:

The Senior Director of Leadership Development is responsible for the overall leadership and strategic design of Leadership Development and Training across the MaineHealth system. This Senior Director will partner with the Chief People Officer and other senior leaders to assess and design best-in-class comprehensive programming focusing on improving the system's leadership capacity.


Essential Functions:

  • Cultivates a culture of learning across all MaineHealth member organizations.
  • Develops materials and curriculum that are relevant and engage the learner.
  • Develops cost-effective programs and training initiatives to deploy throughout the MaineHealth system
  • Oversees training quality and vendor effectiveness and assesses training impact and ROI.
  • Works with senior leadership on the development of leadership continuity program initiatives
  • Advises and consults with leadership on leadership development, talent management, training, complex organizational development and change initiatives to meet strategic objectives.
  • Aligns organizational development and training initiatives with the strategic direction of the system.
  • Remains on cutting edge of organizational development processes, programs and current trends.
  • Identify risks and hazards to patients and document mitigation efforts (i.e. monitoring safety events and completing action items, RCAs, and intensive reviews).
  • Provides leadership and/or consultation to managers in planning, implementing and evaluating new or continuing education programs.
  • Cultivates a strong cross-functional team working in partnership with MaineHealth member organizations.
  • Develops and executes training and talent plans, initiatives and strategies.
  • Conducts needs assessment to identify gaps in individual skills that can be addressed through broad based training interventions.
  • Oversees the curriculum design and planning and coordinates the development of training materials and tools.
  • Responds to customers' needs and promotes an environment of learning and engagement.
  • Provides leadership and guidance to support the achievement of a high performance culture through strategic interventions, programs and initiatives.


Required Minimum Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities (KSAs):

  • Proven training skills, organizational, leadership, and presentation skills.
  • Knowledge of mandatory training/education requirements for clinical and non-clinical healthcare personnel.
  • Experience: Five (5) or more years of professional management experience.
  • Technologically competent, with ability to assess and implement on-line educational systems.
  • License/Certification: N/A.
  • The successful individual demonstrates the following disciplines: Customer service, Organizational skills, Initiative, Attention to detail, Problem solving skills that drive results and are solution oriented, Excellent oral and written communication skills. Able to communicate at all levels in a clear and concise manner.
  • Education: Bachelor’s degree required; Masters preferred.
  • Competence in establishing and follow through of Performance Improvement/CQI initiatives.
  • Demonstrated commitment to excellence in customer service and interpersonal relations.
  • Familiar with JCAHO and State survey requirements.
  • Proven record of execution skills.
