Position: Senior Development Officer
Position Summary:
The Afya Foundation seeks to hire an experienced frontline fundraiser to join our team at a moment of pivotal growth for the organization. The successful candidate will have a passion for learning and exploration and the desire to join a dynamic and growing operation and will be a skilled relationship manager who will have a key role in helping lead efforts to systematically target, cultivate and solicit individual, foundation, and corporate donors in the context of a multi-year comprehensive fundraising campaign.
Under the supervision of the Chief Development and Communications officer, the Senior Development Officer will steward and deepen engagement with current donors while identifying, cultivating, and securing new funding opportunities; will help to steward board members and their networks; and help to craft and implement a multi-year fundraising plan. The Senior Development Officer will be responsible for setting and achieving annual fundraising targets and developing long-term strategic development plans.
Essential Job Functions:
·Manage a personal portfolio of major gift prospects and donors with an emphasis on securing multi-year commitments.
·Identify, cultivate, solicit, and steward a top-tier individual and institutional donors’ portfolio.
·Develop and implement individualized donor strategies for cultivation and solicitation.
·Implement a structured program for fostering strong relationships with targeted individual and institutional donors, involving where appropriate the CDO, CEO, board members, and other members of the Afya Foundation family as appropriate.
·Partner with CDO to develop and execute a strategic annual development plan for special events, appeals, and donor cultivation.
·Assist in leading the development committee to plan and execute the organization’s annual fundraiser, strategic donor engagement activities, and other special events.
·Serve as project manager for the Development team, ensuring follow through on commitments, track progress, and meet fundraising goals.
·Work with the development and program teams to prepare grant applications, fundraising proposals, and other development communication materials.
·Assists the CDO, board of directors, volunteer fundraisers, and other stakeholders with public fundraising initiatives.
·Collaborate with the CDO to prepare annual budgets and projections.
·Present on Afya’s behalf to funders/prospects and other groups and partners in person and via different technologies.
·Oversee the tracking, monitoring, and reporting of all major donor and partnership fundraising activities and prospects through the CRM system.
·Help create and implement policies and procedures for development department operations.
·Performs other related duties as assigned.
Required Qualifications:
·Advanced degree from an accredited institution, BA/BS preferred.
·Minimum of 5-8 years of fundraising experience, preferably in complex healthcare or a large humanitarian or environmental organization.
·Highly energetic and innovative professional with a track record of building donor relationships and closing major gifts.
·Strong organizational, relationship, collaboration, and communication skills and the ability to work independently are essential.
·Knowledge of development best practices and the ability to apply them in innovative ways.
·Comfortable in a startup environment, and can take the initiative, be a self-starter, anticipate, and meet deadlines.
·Skills and discipline to use donor management systems and other technologies.
·Attention to detail and accuracy in performance.
·Strong interpersonal, written, and oral communication skills.
·Excellent analytical abilities, decision-making, and problem-solving skill.
·Experience working in an international context and on cross-cultural teams.
·Demonstrate the highest level of personal and ethical standards.
·Ability to always convey a positive and professional image with staff, vendors, volunteers, and high-level donors.
Salary: 70,000-80,000
