Job Description

137 Ewes Productions is a wildly new animation studio that primarily features animals as our main characters. We cannot say much about our content right now due to non-disclosure policies, but we are confident and incredibly excited to find out more about our characters and world through working with you.


We are currently hiring for the following role:


Screenwriter / TV Writer / Writer [Emerging, Contract]


Contract Duration

September 18th - December 15th, 2023

Emerging Writers Definition:

  • You have not been in the screenwriting field for more than 3 years.
  • You have graduated from a Bachelor’s or Master’s program in Script Writing, Dramatic Writing, or an English Creative Writing major with a focus in say Wit and Humor.
  • You have had some experience writing for others’ episodic shows, shorts, features, indie films, documentaries, side projects that are NOT your own.
  • You do not belong to any writer’s guild.
  • You cannot be in a school or learning setting.
  • You have practiced your craft from 6 months to 3 years after graduation.


Responsibilities

  • Will be working in a collaborative software like StudioBinder or solo software like FinalDraft
  • Will be efficient and effective in working with other writers, as well as on one’s own.
  • Will attend writer’s dailies [brainstorm and feedback meetings] when requested
  • Will be receiving feedback per every 3-4 hours of writing, and applying feedback from show director and/or team members
  • Will be assigned either character sketches [shorts] and/or episodic content [22-29 minutes].


Application Materials:

In order for your application to be considered, you must provide:


  • Sample can be cut out from a longer piece as long as the sample itself makes sense to the reader in its own right
  • Required: A current resume, highlighting writing and educational experience
  • The two samples ideally show different voice or genre to have the reader understand your writing skills and diversity
  • Required: Minimum of two writing samples that are in screenwriting script format. Each sample should be more than 7 pages long and include both action and dialogue to show your unique writing style.
  • Familiarity with animation timing and storyboarding a plus, but not required
  • Drama, Comedy, Action and their various intertwined genres are all welcome.
  • Familiarity with animal behavior, domesticated livestock behavior, different human cultures throughout time: a huge plus, not required.


Qualifications

  • Acute sense of staging in terms of characters’ placement, logistics to move from one location to the next
  • Acute understanding of dialogue specificity, timing, delivery
  • Strong grasp of language in order to flesh out any kind of action
  • Can work in outline mode before script writing
  • Can work in visual brainstorming / post-it mode before script writing
  • Acute sense of wit / humor / comedy in cinematography and dialogue
  • Anyone who fits the “Emerging Writer Definition” that are located anywhere in the world who can write in English. We particularly welcome mindset diversity.
  • Good grasp of various emotions and their range/spectrum of expressions
  • Strong sense of character differentiation when writing dialogue for a large number of characters.
  • Willingness to research, research, research: animal behaviors, human cultures and histories, news articles, museum collections, and so on.
