Out Teach is a fast-growing national nonprofit dedicated to inspiring tomorrow's most fearless innovators. We are seeking a bold, forward thinker to join our expanding team in a contract position as the Elementary Math Content Writer. This individual will be responsible for developing elementary math lessons, resources and professional learning rooted in outdoor learning as a part of a new professional learning experience for Out Teach. This learning experience provides educators with the professional learning, lessons and resources needed to teach real-world math concepts outdoors through a scientific lens.
The ideal candidate will be eager to use their exceptional math lesson writing skills to develop new outdoor lessons for Out Teach that teachers can immediately use and adapt to their learning environments. These lessons will support educators in making difficult math concepts easier to grasp by engaging students in real-world learning experiences outdoors. They will serve as a supplement or enhancement to a districts’ existing math curricula. They will also transform traditional performance tasks at the end of a unit into real-world learning experiences for students. The ideal candidate will also have extensive experience designing learning experiences for elementary math educators. The candidate will design professional learning that builds educators’ instructional strategies and teaching practices when it comes to outdoor learning, allowing students to demonstrate their learning in multiple ways.
Duties and Responsibilities
To perform this job successfully, the individual must be able to satisfactorily perform each of the essential duties and responsibilities listed below.
- Write rigorous and standards-aligned math lessons and performance tasks, anchored in outdoor phenomena, for early elementary educators (i.e. second grade teachers)
- Construct resources to support the implementation of these lessons, for example, student assessments and rubrics for teachers to evaluate student evidence
- Design professional learning content for teachers that supports their implementation of these lessons which includes best practice instructional strategies for teaching elementary math concepts outdoors
- Develop math lessons that support existing open education math curricula, such as Eureka
- Strategically integrate science learning and standards into math lessons to create a cross-disciplinary learning experience for students
Required Knowledge, Skills & Mindsets

- Knowledge of early elementary (K-5) math concepts
- Familiarity with culturally relevant teaching practices
- Ability to work independently and drive projects forward
- Creative problem solver, with an entrepreneurial mindset and ability to craft original solutions that meet the unique needs of potential clients
- Results-oriented and goal driven
- Knowledge of Universal Design for Learning principles
- Excellent organizational and project management skills with strong detail orientation
- Ability to develop and teach lessons that follow the 5E instructional model
- Understanding of early science education and 3 Dimensional learning
Education and Experience
- Experience using the Eureka Math Curriculum in your teaching experience
- 5+ years of teaching experience in K-5 Math (Science experience is a plus)
- 3+ years of professional learning content development experience for a district, non-profit, school, or other entity working in K-8 education
- Experience with Microsoft Office 365, including Teams, Outlook, PowerPoint, Excel and Word
- Experience designing cross-disciplinary learning experiences for students, for example, learning that encompasses Math and Science standards
- A four-year college degree in Education
- Experience teaching early elementary math concepts outdoors
- Preferred: Experience working with different learning management systems, such as Canvas
- Preferred: Experience developing digital learning content
Location & Travel
This position is currently remote. Infrequent travel may be required upon request.
