Summary
The general function of the position within the organization is to perform complex work related to implementing and coordinating accident and loss prevention programs including safety and risk assessment and improvement methods, principles of safe system design and key safety priorities for the Lake County Health Department and Community Health Center according to applicable federal, state and local laws and regulations as well as Joint Commission Environment of Care (EOC) and Health Resources Services Administration (HR.SA) standards. This position is under general supervision.

Scheduled Hours: 40 hours a week

• Monday to Friday (8:30am to 5:00pm)

• Complies with direction of the risk management program of Lake County.
• Develops, implements and maintains the safety information collection and evaluation system in compliance with Joint Commission’s requirements.
• Provides leadership and direction for the EOC Plan.
• Provides development, implementation, training and evaluation of the emergency action plan.
• Serves as internal incident manager, ensuring staff safety incidents and emergencies and injuries are properly managed through administration of the Healthcare SafetyZone Portal in conjunction with Human Resources
• Implements identified safety and training programs and accident and loss prevention programs ensuring compliance with applicable OSHA, Joint Commission and HRSA standards.
• Maintains records of safety training activities and employee programs, monitoring their effectiveness.
• Regularly travels to LCHD/CHC site locations providing direction and oversight to program staff and site leadership regarding safety compliance activities in support of the overall safety structure.
• Ensures that safety programs are in compliance with all federal, state and local laws and regulations.
• Develops and plan procedures and programs to meet the specific safety needs of the agency and operations including the health and safety of staff, patients, clients and visitors.

• Works closely with LCHD/CHC Leadership and management to cultivate the LCHD/CHC Safety Culture.
• Plans and coordinates the safety program, with focus on the EOC, and monitors program compliance with training requirements.
• Reviews program reporting of activities related to safety practices to ensure programs are in compliance with applicable standards. Advises programs regarding corrective action necessary to ensure compliance.
• Maintains the safety structure including staffing of safety officers, and Environmental Health and Safety Committee members; serves as Committee Chair to effectively accomplish the organizations safety goals and objectives.
• Provides leadership and guidance to safety officers.
• Provides direction and oversight of safety activities; plans, directs, and reviews the activities and operations of the safety structure; provides leadership and support to the safety structure.

• Interacts with supervisors and employees in order to identify and correct unsafe conditions or work practices.
• Participate in activities of related professional organizations to update knowledge of safety program developments.
• May develop training manuals and training aids for internal agency use.
• All other related duties as assigned.

• Valid drivers’ license with an acceptable driving record.
• Clinical experience preferred.
• Requires five years of progressively responsible safety management experience in a healthcare setting, preferably in a Joint Commission accredited environment.
• Completion of education or training equivalent to a bachelor’s degree in public health, public administration, healthcare administration, industrial health and safety or related field.
