The Iowa Department of Revenue’s Collection Bureau within the Tax Management Division is currently seeking a Revenue Examiner 1. The Collections Bureau is responsible for the collection of delinquent tax and non-tax debt. The various duties involve using collection tools such payment plans, garnishments, bank levies, correspondence, and phone calls.

TMD Has Three Business Units/bureaus

The Tax Management Division (TMD) strives to be helpful to taxpayers by providing education and service so taxpayers can comply with tax filing and payment obligations.

This position will work on site at the Hoover building in Des Moines. Applicants must live within the State of Iowa to qualify for this position.

In This Position You Will Be Responsible For

• Data entry and processing of Iowa Medicaid withholdings into offset program interface to administer withholdings through offset.
• Depositing of State of Iowa warrants and external credit agency checks using Wells Fargo Desktop Deposit and creation of Cash Receipts into the State of Iowa’s Financial Accounting platform.
• Creating online IET and GAX documents in the State of Iowa’s Financial Accounting platform to release warrants, transfer funds to offset agencies and to collect fees after offset agencies determine disposition of held warrants. Generate Disposition of Held Payments (Warrant, Casino winnings, and Medicaid) to support daily payments issued.
• Performing as the primary contact for debtors dealing with the vendor portion of the State's Income Offset Program. Answer questions primarily by phone & email, research the state's accounting system, vendor-offset system and other mainframe systems for answers to questions from taxpayers, state vendors and offset agencies.
• Reviewing vendor offset matches that have occurred in the overnight accounting cycle to determine which vendor matches to hold and which to release. Provide a list of the vendor matches that are going to be held and copies of "Notice of Held Warrants" to Daily Processing to pull warrants. Notify offsetting agencies of vendor matches that are held.
• Applying state, federal, and vendor offset payments to outstanding balance due accounts; add offset fees to account balances
• Providing assistance to the CCU-IDR call center by answering inbound calls from taxpayers

Preference will be given to candidates with experience in the following:

• Experience with IMPACT, CACS-G, Business Objects, Audit Component, Google products.
• Demonstrated experience of providing excellent verbal and written communication with taxpayers, taxpayers legal representatives and staff.
• The ability to perform research. Experience gathering data and creating simple spreadsheets.

• Graduation from an accredited college or university with an associate’s degree in any field.
• A total of two years of education and/or full-time experience, where thirty semester hours of accredited college or university course work in any field equals one year of full-time experience in tax, accounting, bookkeeping, auditing, insurance, analysis of financial or business forms and data, or answering technical or tax-related questions.
• Current, continuous experience in the state executive branch that includes one year of full-time work in tax, accounting, bookkeeping, auditing, insurance, analysis of financial or business forms and data, or answering technical or tax-related questions.
