Job Description
  • Assists with lawsuits, mediations, and arbitrations. Works with Counsel in the defense of litigation.
  • Handles claims primarily from the desk but may travel to impacted locations to meet with customers and perform on-site inspections.
  • Monitors vendor performance and controls expense costs.
  • Identifies opportunities for subrogation and ensures recovery interests are protected.
  • Engages experts to assist in the evaluation of the claim.
  • Provides Best-In-Class customer service for insureds and agents.
  • Evaluates, negotiates, and determines settlement values.
  • Analyzes insurance policies and other documents to determine insurance coverage.
  • Identifies fraud indicators and refers files to SIU for further investigation.
  • Participates in claims audits
  • Manages all claims in accordance with Best Practices.
  • Assists with special projects
  • Responsible for monitoring and completing assigned claims inventory.
  • Investigates and analyzes claim information to determine extent of liability.
  • Handles claims with severe complexity throughout the United States assigned under little to no supervision.
  • Sets timely, adequate reserves in compliance with the company’s reserving philosophy.
  • Updates and maintains the claim file.
  • Able to perform in a physical work environment, to include varying weather conditions, climbing a ladder, and conducting inspections in confined spaces.
  • Mentors less experienced Claims Examiners.
  • Evaluates Insurance to Value (ITV) and risk characteristics
  • Develops and maintains relationships with external and internal stakeholders.
  • Participates in catastrophe response, to include travel to impacted regions. Must be able to work in difficult and challenging environments.
  • Communicates with all interested parties throughout the life of the claim. Proactively discusses coverage decisions, the need for additional information, and settlement amounts with interested parties.
  • Acquire and maintain a state adjuster’s license and meet state continuing education requirements.
  • Has the aptitude and ability to manage homeowners total losses
Education & Experience:
  • Command of adjusting practices in California and Texas is a plus
  • Ability to analyze estimates written by contractors and/or using Xactimate, CoreLogic, or similar estimating software
  • Persuasive negotiating skills
  • Insurance designations preferred
  • 10 years of claims adjusting experience
  • Strong knowledge of construction methodologies and pricing
  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent work experience
State adjuster licenses required
