Subject position is required to sample several transects near the mine every 2-3 weeks, year-round. The other grant is related to processing water samples that are collected by CZR consulting firm from 31 creeks that run through and around the phosphate mine. These samples arrive every 2 weeks, year-round. With field collection, the position collects waters samples, via boat, and completes in situ measurements using a CTD meter. The samples are brought back to the Environmental Research Laboratory (ERL); the department has a contract with the ERL to use their equipment and reagents to run samples while the labor is provided by the subject position. For analysis, the subject position uses various types of equipment such as the SmartChem (an auto analyzer) that processes large sample sizes; pH meters, titrators, etc. The subject position performs approx. 9 water samples analysis procedures using the SmartChem. These procedures are specialized tests that require an advanced knowledge of water chemistry.

Further, the subject is responsible for ordering required supplies; the subject has discretion to order supplies independently but will check with supervisor on large item equipment purchases.

The subject position has taken on overall responsibility related to day-to-day management of the grant research operation, meaning for all projects, the position must assess collection/research design needs, personnel needs, and equipment needs.
