OBJECTIVES/PURPOSE
The Oncology Cell Therapy Innovation at Takeda is seeking an experienced and highly motivated Research Principal Scientist with deep knowledge in CAR/CCR construct design, optimization and functional evaluation, and extensive experience in employing a variety of genetic engineering tools to regulate gene expression and potentiate cell function, to join the Cell Therapy Discovery team. The successful candidate will play an important role in optimizing cell therapy platforms, e.g., CAR-NK, CAR-γδT, to improve the biological function (potency and persistence) of cell therapy products, based on solid understanding of innate cell biology, i.e. immune cell activation, survival, proliferation, and function, and cancer/immune biology in tumor microenvironment. The scientist will lead discovery projects and collaborate with colleagues within department and cross-function teams to drive the development of Cell Therapy discovery platforms.
Accountabilities
  • Serves as senior company / project representative at external conferences, or business meetings
  • Determines methods on new assignments; makes strategic recommendations on projects; greater demonstrated independence; may manage junior staff
  • Propose novel projects based on internal results, external partners, and published reports and demonstrate leadership through effective communication of study plans/value, and research results.
  • Direct experience in CAR/CCR construction design, optimization and functional validation required.
  • Designs and directs research strategy and activities to meet program objectives; provide leadership, timelines and contingency plans
  • Contribute to discovery projects by independently designing and developing well-defined mechanistic experiments and projects within oncology cell therapy research.
  • Experience with CB-NK and/or γδT cells preferred but not required.
  • Independently manages workload and expectations
  • Frequent contact with internal and external personnel at various management levels
  • Experience with CAR-T, CAR-NK or other CAR-based immune effector cell therapies required.
  • Scientifically independent
  • Lead from the lab to advance novel and differentiated cell therapy products toward clinical milestones, by working collaboratively with internal cross-functional teams and external partners.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, detail-oriented organization skills, and team collaboration skills required.
  • Initiates and leads external interactions and collaborations
  • Design, execute, and interpret functional in vivo, in vitro, and ex vivo assays to understand the mechanism-of-action and play an active role in subsequent scientific discussions to drive decisions.
  • Scientific driver for research strategy that impacts group internally and outside area of function
  • Proven ability to employ a variety of genetic engineering approaches (viral and non-viral tools, expression cassette optimization, promoter engineering, genetic circuit design etc.) to regulate gene expression and function in cell therapy products required.
  • Broad knowledge in molecular biology, cell biology and immunology, especially in immuno-oncology cell therapy field required.
  • Collaborates with other departments, and disciplines, acting as scientific authority within discipline
Education, Behavioural Competencies And Skills
  • MS with 10+ years experience, or
  • BS with 12+ years experience
  • PhD degree in Immunology, Biology, Biological/Chemical Engineering, or related discipline with 6+ years experience, or

Base Salary Range: 143,500.00 to 205,000.00 . Employees may also be eligible for Short Term and Long-Term Incentive benefits. Employees are eligible to participate in Medical, Dental, Vision, Life Insurance, 401(k), Charitable Contribution Match, Holidays, Personal Days & Vacation, Tuition Reimbursement Program and Paid Volunteer Time Off.
The final salary offered for this position may take into account a number of factors including, but not limited to, location, skills, education, and experience.
