Job Description

Position Description

The Department of Health Care Policy seeks a Research Assistant to participate in epidemiological research studies of mental health, psychological resilience, suicide risk, violence, and sexual trauma in the U.S. Army. Duties will include conducting literature searches, organizing, drafting and/or editing material for the preparation of surveys, research papers, manuscripts, and funding progress reports for various studies, and formatting data analysis tables for publications and presentations. More specifically, the candidate will organize, draft and/or edit material for the preparation of research papers, manuscripts, progress reports, and articles or other documents for publication/presentation, including tables, figures, and bibliographies.

The candidate for this position will perform library research and other investigative techniques to locate measures, scales, etc. to be used in publication preparation and survey instrument development. The candidate will develop and test survey instruments, checking skip logic and flow in questionnaires. They will also coordinate materials for multi-author publications and perform other duties as assigned.

Basic Qualifications

One or more years of related research experience are required (relevant course work may count towards experience).

Additional Qualifications and Skills

  • Demonstrated excellent written and oral communication skills.
  • Familiarity with survey research, publication preparation, and/or event coordination is preferred.
  • Bachelor's degree in social sciences/public health or related field preferred.
  • Excellent attention to detail is required to respond effectively to varied and complex tasks.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications is required.
  • Demonstrated ability to work as a member of a team in collaboration with a wide range of people, from administrative staff to faculty.
  • Ability to work with autonomy and use discretion and sound judgment.

Additional Information

This is a one-year term position from the date of hire, with the possibility of extension, contingent upon work performance and continued funding to support the position.

This position is based in Boston and some in-person on-campus work will be required, and flexible/remote work is an option. Any remote work must be performed in a state in which Harvard is registered to do business (CA*, CT, GA, IL, MA, MD, ME, NH, NJ, NY, RI, VA, VT, and WA). Individual flexible and remote work options for this role will be discussed during the interview process. *Note: Harvard employees working in California must be exempt.
