Our Reinsurance Underwriting Team is looking for Reinsurance Underwriting Manager to join their team in our Worcester, MA office or remote work arrangement.
This is a full time, exempt role.
POSITION OVERVIEW:
Direct and administer ceded reinsurance functions for The Hanover Insurance Group. Areas of responsibility include contract management/analysis, coordination of reinsurance submission process for both new and renewal ceded reinsurance treaties, maintaining broker/reinsurer relationships, internal communication, and reporting of reinsurance information.
IN THIS ROLE, YOU WILL:
  • Develop understanding of business strategies to provide cost effective reinsurance solutions.
  • Build and maintain relationships with reinsurance brokers, reinsurer markets and other external relationships related to Ceded Reinsurance.
  • In conjunction with the Office of the General Counsel and Director, assist as needed with contract wording and interaction/consistency among contracts.
  • Participate on Ceded Reinsurance commutations as required.
  • Develop or maintain understanding of cat modeling concepts.
  • Monitor reinsurers for adherence to security standards.
  • Participate in the presentation of Ceded Reinsurance Underwriting audits.
  • Provide input and assist in coordination the process of ceded reinsurance purchases between underwriting and direct reinsurer or broker-market placements.
  • Proactively oversee the implementation and maintenance of all reinsurance contracts and programs in compliance with the NAIC nine-month rule.
  • Facilitate or participate in quantitative actuarial contract profitability and impact analyses on multiple lines of business.
Monitor and communicate quarterly reinsurance contract activity and financial information.
  • All other duties as required.
  • Assist reinsurance accounting as needed.
  • Assist in responding to inquiries from underwriting, claims or any other corporate disciplines on reinsurance coverage issues.
  • Maintain updated contract documentation and distribute appropriately.
  • Remain current with insurance product/line of business changes and reinsurance industry trends.
WHAT YOU NEED TO APPLY:
  • Strong written and oral communication skills with the ability to communicate effectively within the organization and articulate suggestions/alternatives and analytical skills.

  • Quantitative math, accounting, and/financial experience.
  • Five+ years of experience in the Reinsurance industry or property/casualty underwriting
  • Comprehensive knowledge of both commercial and personal lines insurance products.

  • Bachelor’s degree in related field and/or certification specialized training or equivalent work experience.
  • Information Systems Knowledge: Maintains and applies specific knowledge of information systems elements (hardware, software, & network) and their application to business functions/processes.
