This role is open to work location at any of the R&D locations - Plano, TX ; Valhalla, NY

The Sanitation Authority’s role in the Global Food Safety organization is to be the authority on the definition and governance of PepsiCo sanitation requirements, enabling the manufacture of safe, stable, legal, and wholesome products.


Sanitation Authority R&D Associate Scientist will have a unique opportunity to expand their knowledge across both the PepsiCo global food / snacks and beverage businesses, build the sanitation capability agenda, support the hygienic design standards agenda, and drive sanitation innovation to achieve Winning with Purpose and PEP+ agenda, while delivering Food Safety.


This position will support the Global Sanitation Authority Team in 4 key areas of responsibility:


  • Develop and implement new ways of working strategies for sanitation and support capability building.
  • Horizon scan to identify, test and roll-out new sanitation innovation in technology and chemistry to improve sanitation efficacy and resource consumption.
  • Support the mitigation of food safety risks with a balanced approach to control food safety risks as they relate to hygienic design gaps, sanitation programs and activities.
  • Build sanitation and hygienic design capability globally (with primary focus on Foods, North America)


Responsibilities


  • Assess food safety risks and develop proposals and strategies of recommended process, program, and procedural improvements to support the mitigation and control of hazards and contaminants, through consultation of existing sanitation program and global manuals.
  • Leverage project management and leaderships skills, along with in-depth knowledge, advanced problem-solving skills and an awareness of PepsiCo priorities to translate strategic direction into tactical plans and implementation activities.
  • Support new product innovation through assessing sanitation chemistry and development of process validation guidance.
  • Leverage and share hygienic design and sanitation best practices to provide a positive impact to the overall PepsiCo business across all sectors.
  • Travel ~30-50% (some international)
  • Horizon scan to identify, test and rollout new process technology initiatives in support of sanitation and hygienic design.
  • Deliver against Global Sanitation Authority People Capability Build agenda and drive continuous improvements in training content for sanitation and hygienic design.
  • Support the execution of Global Food Safety strategy with the optimization of the Global Sanitation Standard across PepsiCo Foods North America, and deployment of the Hygienic Design Standards.
  • Provide subject matter expertise to strongly influence tactical plans and project direction in the areas of hygienic design and sanitation (i.e.: SSOPs, cross-contact and -contamination prevention, sanitation chemicals, sanitation practices and equipment, and hygienic design).


Compensation and Benefits (Valhalla, NY):


  • Bonus based on performance and eligibility; target payout is 8% of annual salary paid out annually
  • Paid time off subject to eligibility, including paid parental leave, vacation, sick, and bereavement
  • Location, confirmed job-related skills and experience will be considered in setting actual starting salary

  • The expected compensation range for this position is between $68,000 - $ 113,850 based on a full-time schedule


Qualifications


  • Effective collaborator and team oriented with skills that effectively bring people and issues to decisive resolution. Ability to develop positive working relationships with manufacturing personnel and gain commitment from others to accomplish work.
  • Foundational hygienic design and sanitation knowledge required.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Food Science, Engineering, Technology, or other related technical field.
  • A strong understanding of Sanitation Programs, Food Safety/HACCP principles, FSMA, Manufacturing Systems, Quality Standards and be able to translate that knowledge into achievable Business Unit deliverables
  • Strong presentation skills to drive the team’s People Capability Build agenda.
  • Strong troubleshooting skills to evaluate various alternatives and risks and communicate recommendations to Business Units with a sense of urgency.
  • The ability to influence Teams, as well as understand current processes and opportunities to make real improvements toward the end-state of ensuring effective sanitation and safe food is produced.
  • Ability to set direction, solve difficult problems and execute projects as required.
  • Managing ambiguity ~ working within a complex, fluid cross-functional environment managing significant amounts of change and being able to understand the process implementation to influence positive results.
  • Initiative for problem solving with sound data interpretation skills and CAPA development.
  • Self-Starter capable of managing their own agenda and achieve quality results consistently despite obstacles.
  • 3-4+ years experience years of progressive experience working in Sanitation or Hygenic Design in Food & Bev Manufacturing or R&D.
  • Excellent communication and organization skills.
