NNSA Requirements for MedPEDs
If you have a Medical Portable Electronic Device (MedPED), such as a pacemaker, defibrillator, drug-releasing pump, hearing aids, or diagnostic equipment and other equipment for measuring, monitoring, and recording body functions such as heartbeat and brain waves, if employed by Sandia National Laboratories you may be required to comply with NNSA security requirements for MedPEDs.
If you have a MedPED and you are selected for an on-site interview at Sandia National Laboratories, there may be additional steps necessary to ensure compliance with NNSA security requirements prior to the interview date.
What Your Job Will Be Like
We are seeking a qualified and enthusiastic leader to manage the newly originated Mission Assurance Department, 05472.
The department will support mission assurance responsibilities spanning all of Center 05400’s activities. The scope of the new manager’s responsibilities will be the development, implementation, and maintenance of the bulk of 5400’s Mission Assurance System (MAS) and oversight of department personnel. The specific areas of MAS responsibility will be Center 05400’s quality assurance and configuration management policies.
On any given day, one may be called upon to:
- Manage members of the workforce within the department including, coordinate employee recruitment, selection, training, performance assessment, work assignments, salary, recognition, and disciplinary actions
- Work closely with other center 05400 managers and program/technical managers to service 05400’s program needs
- Work in a fast-paced environment that potentially involves interaction with other Sandia organizations and multiple external organizations
- Engage with corporate Quality Assurance organizations
The 05472 manger will be supported by a team lead (05472-1) and exempt staff composed of Quality Engineers, E&O Systems Engineers, and Information Management Professionals. 5472-1 will comprise R&D General, Quality, and Engineering Document Control Technologists. The 5472-1 team lead position is filled by an acting lead.
Due to the nature of the work, the selected applicant must be able to work onsite at least 80% of the time. The ability to occasionally travel.
Qualifications We Require
- ISO 9001:2015
- And /or ISO 14001, AS9100, DOE O 414.1D
- Minimum of 2 years demonstrated leadership experience
- Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field, plus 8 years related experience; or equivalent (AS+ 12 or no degree + 16)
- Experience with Quality Management policies:
- ISO 9001:2015
- and /or ISO 14001, AS9100, DOE O 414.1D
- Active DOE L-level security clearance; or other equivalent active security clearance such as DOD Secret
Qualifications We Desire
- Exposure to Center 05400’s operations
- Experience leading a high-functioning, multi-disciplinary team
- History with product delivery in a timely, cost-effective, and high-quality manner
- The ability to manage the overall operational, budgetary, and financial responsibilities and activities of the department
- The ability to identify gaps or lack of execution within process areas and the ability to implement improvements that impact overall center and program success
- Experience with fielding operations at remote testing facilities, such as Kauai Test Facility, Kodiak Launch Complex, NASA Wallops, Courtland, AL, etc.
- Demonstrated agility in response to changing requirements or circumstances
- Experience with developing partnerships, recruiting staff, building teams, mentoring, inspiring others to perform with excellence, planning strategy, and creating roadmaps
- A well-developed Sandia network of peers, especially within the Quality and Configuration Management communities
- Demonstrated interpersonal skills; a history developing trusting relationships among staff, peers, and upper management
- Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written with an ability to tailor to all levels of leadership and partner audiences
About Our Team
The Integrated Military Systems (IMS) Center 05400 develops pathfinder technologies that provide the United States an advantage in missile engagements and other military encounters. IMS develops and tests fully-integrated flight systems for strike and missile defense missions, as well as revolutionary technologies in directed energy, military systems analytics, computerized target characterization, and autonomy. IMS leverages its decades-long experience base, threat and intelligence insight, science-based systems engineering and analysis, advanced technologies, and rapid prototyping to deliver innovative, high-quality products to its customers.
Organization 05472 will employ a wide variety of technical staff and technologists that provide support in the areas of Quality and Configuration Management (CM). The Quality Engineers provide support to center programs to address quality compliance needs. The E&O Systems engineers and Information Management professionals support hardware/software pedigree archiving and verification activities. The 5472-1 team will comprise Quality Operations Officers (QualOps) who assist in documenting flight build and testing activities, and CM and Documentation Control Techs who support document handling and control activities.
Additionally, 5400 coordinates with Org. 3648 for Tech-Writer support. Several tech writers from Org. 3648 are matrixed to 5472 to support 5400’s document generation, formatting, and revision needs.

Security Clearance
Position requires a Department of Energy (DOE) L security clearance to start, or equivalent active security clearance with another U.S. government agency (e.g., DOD).
Sandia is required by DOE to conduct a pre-employment drug test and background review that includes checks of personal references, credit, law enforcement records, and employment/education verifications. Applicants for employment need to be able to maintain a DOE L-level security clearance, which requires U.S. citizenship. If you hold more than one citizenship (i.e., of the U.S. and another country), your ability to obtain a security clearance may be impacted.
