NNSA Requirements for MedPEDs
If you have a Medical Portable Electronic Device (MedPED), such as a pacemaker, defibrillator, drug-releasing pump, hearing aids, or diagnostic equipment and other equipment for measuring, monitoring, and recording body functions such as heartbeat and brain waves, if employed by Sandia National Laboratories you may be required to comply with NNSA security requirements for MedPEDs.
If you have a MedPED and you are selected for an on-site interview at Sandia National Laboratories, there may be additional steps necessary to ensure compliance with NNSA security requirements prior to the interview date.
Salary Range
$101,400 - $172,300
- Salary range is estimated, and actual salary will be determined after consideration of the selected candidate's experience and qualifications, and application of any approved geographic salary differential.
What Your Job Will Be Like
Are you passionate about applying technical judgment and engineering methods, tools, and techniques to build, maintain and improve processes to ensure the delivery of high-quality product? We are seeking a motivated Quality Engineer to develop and operate quality control systems and standards, understand the application and analysis of testing and inspection procedures, use metrology and statistical methods to diagnose and correct improper quality control practices and identify improvement recommendations!
On any given day, you may be called on to:
- Define, select, and apply various techniques including supplier qualification, certification, evaluation, ratings, performance improvement, etc.
- Support quality assurance, causal analysis, corrective action and preventive action analysis, audits, and measurement related activities
- Interpret technical drawings, product specifications and requirements throughout the life cycle.
- Define, identify, and apply product and process control methods such as developing control plans, identifying critical control points, developing, and validating work instructions, inspection equipment and instructions
- Identify sources of design inputs such as customer requirements, regulatory requirements and translate them in to operational and technical requirements
- Travel up to 25% of the time
- Perform Quality Control activities for various projects

You will need to be located in the Knoxville/Oak Ridge TN area.
The selected applicant can be a remote worker located in any U.S. State or District of Columbia. Regular or periodic travel to your assigned work location may be required.
Qualifications We Require
- Working with classified and/or UCNI documents.
- Active DOE Q-level or DOD equivalent (TS) security clearance.
- Bachelor's degree in STEM, Quality Engineering or Construction Management, or related field, plus eight (8) years of related experience.
- Communicating major elements of design, engineering, maintenance, processes, or policies.
- Construction projects working with multi-discipline engineering packages (electrical, civil/structural, mechanical) to implement a design.
- Experience in the following:
- Developing incremental, implementable actions to achieve a large process/goal.
- Communicating major elements of design, engineering, maintenance, processes, or policies.
- Working with classified and/or UCNI documents.
- Construction projects working with multi-discipline engineering packages (electrical, civil/structural, mechanical) to implement a design.
- Developing incremental, implementable actions to achieve a large process/goal.
Qualifications We Desire
- Newforma Project Center and Info Exchange application.
- USACE, DoD, DoE, or NNSA.
- Construction design, installation, and/or testing
- Knowledge of human factors and motivation, quality concepts and techniques, and the development and implementation of management systems, audit, and assess quality systems for deficiency identification and correction.
- Sandia process and practices
- Understanding of quantitative methods (i.e. statistical, mathematical, or computational techniques and their application.)
- ISO 9001 and/or AS9100.
- Construction, quality, and safety standards
- Ability to: tackle exciting problems in the absence of clear direction and satisfy quality requirements and expectations; implement tools and methodologies to improve system design, testing, and field implementation and prevent defects; monitor, analyze, and identify trends in data to detect areas of risk and systemic issues, and provide effective solutions
- Experience with the following:
- Newforma Project Center and Info Exchange application.
- Construction design, installation, and/or testing
- Installation of Physical Security Systems
- USACE, DoD, DoE, or NNSA.
- ISO 9001 and/or AS9100.
- Sandia process and practices
- Construction, quality, and safety standards
- Ability to build effective working relationships and build and lead dynamic teams across the laboratories while working independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced dynamic environment.

Department 6529's primary mission is to provide enhanced security systems integration and support to DOE and NNSA sites and their customers. complexes. We are responsible for the design, testing and implementation of complex physical security systems to protect critical national security assets and defense capabilities. The department provides project management and subject matter experts for risk analysis, intrusion detection, video assessment, communications, entry control, alarm communication and display, and response force planning. Security Clearance
Position requires a Department of Energy (DOE) Q security clearance to start, or equivalent active security clearance with another U.S. government agency (e.g., DOD). Sandia is required by DOE directive to conduct a pre-employment drug test and background review that includes checks of personal references, credit, law enforcement records, and employment/education verifications. Applicants for employment need to be able to maintain a DOE Q-level security clearance, which requires U.S. citizenship. If you hold more than one citizenship (i.e., of the U.S. and another country), your ability to obtain a security clearance may be impacted.

This Limited Term Employee (LTE) position is a temporary position for one year term, which may be renewed at Sandia's discretion up to a maximum of seven years.
Individuals in LTE positions may bid on regular Sandia positions as internal candidates, and in some cases may be converted to regular career positions during their term if warranted by ongoing operational needs, continuing availability of funds, and satisfactory job performance.
