What You'll Be Doing in the role of Qualitative Research Manager
The Qualitative Research Manager is a member of the Health Information and Evaluation (HIE) team within Komen’s Mission division. The HIE team supports Komen’s role as an evidence-based organization by transforming data into meaningful intelligence that will guide program strategy, convey Komen’s impact, and contribute to the body of scientific evidence about breast cancer.
What You Will Bring To The Table
The Qualitative Research Manager will support Susan G. Komen in achieving its overall Vision and Mission by:
Managing and conducting patient insight research studies to guide Komen programming and contribute to breast cancer literature.
Develop ing and conduct ing mixed methods research studies to assess patient insights, including determining research methodology, sampling, instrument development, validation, data collection, analysis, benchmarking, and reporting.
Employ ing the tenets of community-based participatory research (CBPR) to coordinate the collection and analysis of qualitative data from breast cancer communities including patients, survivors, those living with metastatic breast cancer, researchers, co-survivors and others, and subsets of the community such as those in specific racial/ethnic groups, socio-economic statuses, etc.
Develop ing research protocols and manages submissions through the regulatory review process.
Conduct ing surveys, focus groups and in-depth interviews.
Manag ing recruitment process for studies based on an ongoing assessment of saturation, purposive sampling of key informants and close monitoring of data quality.
Perform ing in-depth qualitative data analysis from a grounded theoretical perspective, including data cleaning, coding, code book refinement, consolidation of themes and summary of analysis.
Serv ing as a subject matter expert in the areas of survey design and dissemination and development and facilitation of interview and focus group guides.
Communicating outcomes, insights, and impact of evaluation and patient insight studies for a multi-stakeholder audience.
Perform ing technical writing and reporting of data, including complex reports that provide statistics, demographics, ratings, averages, and other numerical and text-based data.
Coordinat ing with team members to prepare presentations, tables, charts, and figures for internal and external reports.
Contribut ing to the communication of study outcomes including the development and updating of talking points, website content, program summaries, abstracts for presentation at scientific conferences and scholarly manuscripts for high-impact academic medical and social scientific journals.
Present ing study results to donors and Mission leadership.
Working collaboratively across Komen departments to help secure mission program funding and ensure donor stewardship.
Represent ing Komen and the mission team in a professional manner internally and externally to prospective and current donors and other key stakeholders.
Servi ng as a Komen representative on internal committees and working groups.
Respond ing to data request inquiries for information on evaluation and patient insight studies.
Contribut ing to proposals, pitch documents, presentations, and other materials to assist in revenue-generating activities and support for mission programs.
Uphold ing Komen's principles of scientific excellence, fairness, and transparency.
Providing project management.
Maintain ing proper research data maintenance and security protocols.
Manag ing documentation for qualitative research evaluation portfolio (e.g., IRB submission, consent documentation, participant communication, etc.).
Ensur ing research and evaluation project timelines are properly prioritized and followed across the multiple projects.
Work ing effectively with cross-functional teams to accomplish goals and initiatives.
Develop ing and maintain ing Community Health Evaluation process documentation (SOWs, SOPs, guidelines, etc.).
Performing all other duties as assigned.
We Already Know You Will Also Have
Master’s degree in Public Health, Applied Research or Social Sciences required.
Three years’ experience, post Master’s degree, in mixed methods evaluation, community-based participatory research, data collection techniques, and data analysis.
Demonstrated experience with community engagement and recruitment of diverse communities.
Substantive experience with in-depth interviewing and conducting of focus groups.
Understanding of best practices in the ethical conduct of mixed methods and human subject research.
Ability to see projects through from conception to completion; demonstrated ability to identify problems and follow through until resolution.
Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously, set priorities, and collaborate with team members.
Strong communication skills, written and oral.
Ability to work independently and autonomously but also function well in a collaborative team setting, working across functions and different types of people.
Demonstrated expertise in managing working relationships in a matrix structure.
Demonstrated experience in client and stakeholder communication including but not limited to written, oral and electronic reports.
Experience working with patients/survivors of disease.
Experience using qualitative data management/analysis software such as NVivo.
Experience using survey software such as Qualtrics.
Work Experience: 2 – 5 years
Master’s Degree: Public Health, Social Sciences or related field
Preferred Experience Includes
Ph.D. in public health, social sciences, or related field.
Experience working in a non-profit setting.
Breast cancer knowledge and/or experience in breast cancer.
Experience performing quantitative analysis using statistical software packages, such as SPSS, Stata, or SAS.
Intermediate level of computer/technical skills. Programs utilized are Microsoft Office, databases (internal and external) and virtual networking programs (Teams, RingCentral). Must be able to assist others with basic computer/technical issues and/or understanding.
Advanced data visualization and communication/presentation skills. Programs utilized are Canva, InDesign, etc.
Travel requirements required outside of your home office will be less than 15% depending on our business needs and is subject to change.

Competitive salary 55K - 75K, exact compensation ranges are based on various factors including the labor market, job level, internal equity and budget. Exact salary offers will be determined by factors such as the candidate's skills, experience and geographic location.
