About The State Fair Of Texas

Since its inception in 1886, the State Fair of Texas has celebrated all things Texan by promoting agriculture, education, and community involvement through quality entertainment in a family-friendly environment. The State Fair of Texas is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization with proceeds helping to preserve and improve our home, Fair Park; underwrite museums, community initiatives, and scholarship programs to support students throughout the Lone Star State pursuing higher education; and help improve State Fair operations.

Summary

Responsibilities may include writing PR materials or marketing copy, including press releases, marketing collateral, social media posts, newsletter and website copy, preparing media kits, assisting with special events, working with other departments to improve communication efforts, interacting with outside vendors and members of the media, and assisting with the Fair's overall PR activities.

Assist in tracking and maintenance of media coverage, update media database, and help qualify and fulfill media requests.

Duties And Responsibilities

Essential and other important responsibilities and duties may include, but are not limited to, the following:

Essential Functions

• Assist with development and distribution of press materials and correspondence to the media and public.
• Assist in tracking and maintenance of media coverage, update media database, and help qualify and fulfill media requests.
• Assist in cultivation of relationships with media, community organizations, and the public.
• Produce written materials for departments and assist other departments when necessary.
• Assist in coordination of television appearances, interviews, radio remotes, and film shoots as necessary.
• Assist in execution of special events and promotions. Project a positive image of all aspects of the State Fair of Texas.

Experience And Training Guidelines

Any combination of experience that would likely provide the required knowledge is qualifying:

Qualifications

• Knowledge and love for Big Tex and the State Fair of Texas are essential.
• Strong copywriting, communication, and organizational skills are required.

Preferred Education and/or Experience:

• Oral and written communication.
• Previous work experience Public Relations.
• High School Diploma or higher level of education.

License or Certificate:

• Possession of, or ability to obtain, an appropriate Texas driver's license.

SUPERVISION RECEIVED and EXERCISED

• Reports to Manager of Public Relations
• Work independently with minimal supervision.

WORKING CONDITIONS

Environmental Conditions:

• Working outdoors in various weather conditions and on uneven and/or slippery surfaces, as necessary, especially during Fair time and special events.

Physical Conditions:

• Remaining in a stationary position for prolonged periods of time.
• Moving short and long distances to access office supplies, meet guests, perform duties within Fairgrounds, etc.
• Verbally communicate with both internal and external contacts.
• Essential and other important responsibilities and duties require maintaining physical condition necessary for
• Occasionally lift objects no more than 25 pounds unassisted.

Work Schedules:

• Around August thru October. Some nights may require overnight hours.
