Product Design Engineer Jobs

Job Summary Statement

This position will create and manage designs for new consumer products from initial concept to high volume manufacturing. Collaborate with Industrial Design, Operations, and Program Managers to deliver cost-effective mechanical design solutions and detailed engineering drawings. Develop custom fixtures and associated manufacturing equipment. Modify designs of existing products for improved quality, more efficient manufacturing, and reduced unit costs.

Essential Job Duties and Responsibilities

• Analyze, thoroughly check, and detail all designs to ensure the accurate fabrication of molds, tooling, and dies
• Ability and willingness to take ownership of the project; ability to get the job done with minimal supervision
• Leads and mentors less experienced engineers
• Design products for manufacturing and assembly (DFM), considering specifications for fit, form, and function
• Ability to work in a dynamic, fast-paced environment
• Resolve problems in new and existing designs with innovative and cost-effective solutions
• Some travel to vendor sites may occasionally be required
• Manage international suppliers
• Represent Product Engineering as an active team member in the New Product Development meetings and process
• Independently identify cost reduction opportunities in products already in production
• Other duties as assigned
• Work from concept sketches and rough designs produced by Industrial Design and Manufacturing Operations
• Design injection and blow molded parts for high volume manufacturing

This position is open for either a Junior or Senior Level. Only one job available.

Senior level Minimum Requirements and Qualifications

• Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent experience
• Minimum five (5) years CAD experience. Creo (Pro/Engineer), Solidworks and/or other 3D CAD software
• Minimum five (5) years experience designing injection molded parts
• Minimum five (5) years of experience in mechanical engineering or product design and development

Junior level Minimum Requirements and Qualifications

• Minimum one (1) year of experience in mechanical engineering or product design and development
• Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent experience
• Minimum one (1) year CAD experience. Creo (Pro/Engineer), Solidworks and/or other 3D CAD software
• Minimum one (1) year experience designing injection molded parts

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience with injection mold tooling, forming tools, thermoforming, and fixture design
• Experience using Windchill or other PDM software
• Experience using Creo Simulate or FEA software

Required Skills and Abilities

• A high degree of mechanical aptitude and creativity
• Math skills Able to add, subtract, multiply and divide required along with an understanding of tolerance analysis
• Detail-oriented, innovative, and possesses good verbal communication skills
• Computer Skills Experience using MS Office (Word, Excel, Outlook, etc
• English language skills Able to read, write, speak, and comprehend English

Physical Requirements and Work Environment

• This position is 95% in ventilated office and 5% in an unventilated manufacturing environment.
• Must be able to lift 10 pounds at times.
• Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
• The manufacturing floor is hot and humid in the summer months and cold in the winter months
